If my friends treated me the way they treated Claudia, it'll be Adios, BSC right there. I would quit the club and Kristy and her little clique will have to find someplace else to have their meetings.
And, I agree that Kristy should get fired from her own club.

I would have quit the club too. First poor Claud wasn't allowed to have a friend outside the BSC then they get all bitchy and leave mean notes all over her room and eat her snacks! Just because she made a new friend!

Just read this one and Ashley came off as really pushy to me from the get-go. She acted like baby-sitting was beneath Claudia when they barely knew each other. And for the first time, Claudia felt like it was baby-ish. It was rude for Ashley to put down baby-sitting in front of Jackie and his brothers. It's understandable that she's more into art than anything else, but that doesn't mean Claudia is the same way. And it did seem like Ashely only liked Claudia because of she was into art, not because shew as Claudia. At first, Ashley kind of ignored her even though Claudia was being friendly. I get being shy, but Ashley didn't come off as shy to me.
I get why the BSC members were upset with Claudia. She didn't really approach them after Ashley came around. Except to tell them she was sitting somewhere else at lunch and to say she wasn't going to be at the BSC meeting (two weeks in a row?). The BSC members should've made more of an effort to talk to her, but Claudia should have as well. It goes both ways. Of course, things went way too far with the BSC members eating her food and writing mean notes. That part was the most jarring to read about. It's one thing to be upset, it's another to be nasty about it.
However, Claudia seemed to be in the middle of Ashley and the BSC. It was important to Claudia to be a part of the club, but she let herself be led around by Ashley. And Ashley was trying to get Claudia to blow it off. So I don't think the BSC were totally wrong here. Claudia could have told them she needed a break from the club until the art show was over. I think they would've understood. Instead she called Dawn at the last minute on meeting days. That had to be upsetting for the BSC, as a club and as friends. Especially for Stacey, her best friend.
All that aside, I did like how things were resolved at the end where everyone ate together and Ashley made an effort to talk to the BSC and vice versa. I'm glad Claudia didn't just turn her back completely on Ashley.

The one where two hippies act out the pottery scene from Ghost.

Ashley looks like a Disney princess with Huge feet. Claudia looks too normal in these covers.

I appreciate how extra it makes Ashley look in comparison. I think they both could have dressed more unusual, but how do you make Claudia look cool and Ashley look unfashionable when they both dress crazy?

Is that a nude portrait of Claudia on the wall? I like the fire hydrant floating there like it is the third main character. This is cute except Claudia looks like she got burned in a tanning bed while wearing those little protection goggles.

I wonder what the boy's staring at with that joyous look on his face. I doubt it's Claudia.

This is a weird one. I agree with those who said that everybody was kind of obnoxious in this book. Ashley was pushy, Claudia was flaky (this is a trait I cannot stand irl... I've just had too many bad experiences), and the rest of the sitters were out of line when they messed up her room. I understand their anger at her (I'd be angry too; she made a commitment and kept backing out at the last second. It is realistic for a 13 year old though), but if I was Claudia, I'd be LIVID and maybe cut off snack privilges for awhile. It's actually odd that she was indifferent.
I did laugh at this though: "Kristy was practically destroying my room in her search for junk food. It was so silly. Anyone with half a brain would know I keep the Twinkies in my sock drawer." I'm not sure why this got me, it just did.
I wish we saw more of Ashley. She is too pushy and serious, but I think she's interesting. There's room for character development as well... in fact, she showed signs of mellowing out a bit in the end. I like her clothes too; I love hippie clothes, they look so comfortable. I don't like that the girls made fun of her clothes, but it's realistic. I think most of the behavior in this book is pretty realistic for 13 year old girls.
Weirdly, at the end Claudia said that she'd sometimes join the BSC at lunch and that she considered her a "sometimes friend." What? I don't remember that! And I don't recall her joining them at lunch outside this book. I think it would've been cool if this kind of thing happened more often.

Of course she didn’t join them after that. No one dared to infiltrate the bubble except for Logan.
