I read this one right when it first came out, right after I read Too Many Boys. Since they'd just been on summer vacation in that one, I started #35 expecting them to say something about starting a new school year or moving up a grade, but nothing like that was mentioned. I remember being all WTF? Why are they still in 8th grade? I thought about writing to Ann and asking her to please move them up a grade, but I never did it. Like it would have mattered - I'm sure a lot of people did just that and she never listened.

I understand why. If they were releasing a new book every month which would correspond to that month (i.e., a book released in June would generally be a story which took place in June), they could only sustain the BSC for four years til they got to college and would be too old for the target audience.

I wonder if Ann thought the series was going to last as long as it did. My guess is no, because then I think she might have kept them in 7th grade a little longer before moving them to 8th. They were in 7th grade for a realistic amount of time, then we get book 10 which was the start of the longest 8th grade year in the history of the universe...LOL.

I remember her saying at one point that she had so many MORE ideas for them, but the series had to end sometime. I mean, didn't it seem like they were sort of stretching? And recycling?
I remember being annoyed about the lack of time change after this one when I was a kid too... I tried to rationalize it to my 2nd/3rd grade self that it occurred at the same time as Logan Likes Mary Anne... even if it really didn't.

one thing that bothered me is that the portrait collections were all supposed to basically be written over the same weekend--maybe some were due a week later or something but still. but then at the time of the writing of stacey's book, abby hadn't moved to stoneybrook, yet abby wrote a portrait collection book. ahhh!!

^That sounds annoying! I only have Kristy's Portrait so far, but when I get the rest, I will have to remember that. It also bothered me that they repeated summers, holidays, and 8th grade in general, so I just thought of it as going back in time and showing memories, but then Abby came along and ruined that (not that I dislike Abby).

The time thing doesn't bother me and never did. I actually really like that time never passes - this is my dream in life so the BSC - even with the inconsistencies that this causes - really fulfils this. ;D

^ I want time to pass, just to stay the same, if that makes any sense. ;D Like, I would want to be permenantly 13 or maybe 15. That was a good age for me. ;D

^Me too.
I'd like to stay 17 -- I had all the freedom of being an adult with none of the responsibility. Of course, when I really think about it, I don't think I could keep up that lifestyle forever. All the gossip and backstabbing and drama... ugh. It makes me tired just thinking about it.

Yeah, I have no idea how to play Clue either. The whole game confuses me. I used to like making up my own rules that had nothing to do with the actual rules of the game. Unfortunately, I can't remember how to play any of my alternate Clue games, but they were fun.
