^ I agree....that somewhat echoes what I said earlier in the thread about being glad that Kristy only made second string. It can be nice to have things work out okay more often than not in books, movies, tv, etc, since that's not always how things go in real life. Some realism every now and then is refreshing, though, especially in BSC land. I can't tell you how disillusioned I was when I got to middle school and realized that it wasn't like the BSC after all. Maybe if this book had been around then, things would have been different! After I read the BSC, when I was really bad at the sit-up test in PE, I thought that I would automatically be really good in archery!

I rent this book at the library. This book bores me. I'm not huge fan of sports. I've seen baseball a few times, in my life. Watching it for a while. I get bored.
The food they described sound so delicious.
Bill Bains did sound like a jerk. When he first show up. Kristy, told him. I don't think it's wrong. He needs to hear the truth. He was only thinking of himself, not his fans. He did realized, that he was in the wrong. He sign autographs for everyone.
Subplot was ok. Just DM trading baseball cards. Do kids still trade stuff, these days?

A league of their own was on TV the other day and I thought of this book.
Anyway, I liked this book since I liked seeing Kristy and Watson bonding, even if they did argue for the last half there. Bill Bain was just a jerk, just goes to show you shouldn't meet your heroes sometimes. Although I do like how he signed autographs at the end.
Interesting subplot, I love Abby knocking some sense into david michael there at the end lol.

There is nothing worse than a BSC book dedicated to sports and that's usually a Kirsty book. I always skip this one because it's so boring and you can't change my mind.

Kind of mixed on this one. I actually like most of the sports books even though I'm not much of an athlete (I enjoyed gym class, was one of my favorites, but never played on a team. Enjoyed playing casually). I actually had fairly high expectations of this one (first time reading) because I really like Kristy and Watson's dynamic.
The first third of the book was decent. I was annoyed with Kristy for just assuming she'd make the first string team and not really trying. Then moping about making second string. Come on. She's not a natural like Abby and knows this. Not saying that Abby shouldn't try, should give your best regardless, but yeah. Not a natural and not giving your best... what do you expect? I do think many could probably relate to this, though.
The Dream Camp stuff was alright. I liked Vicki and thought that the conflict with her dad was interesting, and that Kristy was pretty open-minded about her not being into baseball. The Bill Bain stuff was honestly so predictable. I've never read this and I KNEW he was going to disappoint Watson, KNEW he'd be a jerk at first, and KNEW that he'd apologize in the end and be super, super cool all the sudden. I have to say that I didn't expect Kristy to confront him in front of everyone.
Kristy coaching people feels unrealistic to me. It's like, it's really cool that she can do that and has coaching talent, but I think irl they'd tell her to stfu. I wasn't annoyed by it myself, but I think the actual coaches would pull her to the side and tell her not to do their job. Or something. It was definitely kind of weird.
The food at the camp sounds good. Tbh, since Dawn left, I don't take notice of food descriptions as much. But the food at the camp sounded gourmet. The breakfast spread sounded great, and this dessert sounds fantastic:
"Now, for dessert, they were handing out huge slabs of chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce." Ooooh.
Kristy thinking of her dad and feeling guilty made me a little sad. It's understandable that she'd have wanted to do this camp with Patrick. Somehow I think it could have been more developed, though. I'm glad that she realized that Watson is a better dad in the end.
I liked the final game. It was 100% predictable, like the ending of every sports movie ever, but I kind of like those endings, so I liked this it XD.
Subplot was boring. Why in the world would I care about David Michael's baseball card collection? I liked Abby's solution to it, but yeah, I just didn't care. I expected that the subplot would be about the BSC running without Kristy. Yes, that's been done, but it would've been cool to see it being no-drama in a contrast to #99. The beginning seems to imply that'll be what the subplot is about. Kind of a character development moment maybe, and a cool idea for Kristy's last main series book (!).
Funny/ weird stuff:
Kristy says she dresses like a 7 year old boy. Haha, same.
Kristy talks so much about Dream Camp that ABBY gets tired of it. Not sure I buy this; I thought Abby was more of a jock than Kristy!
Apparently the Thomas-Brewers tease Watson about being old, but he's not much older than Elizabeth. How old is he? He always kind of struck me as being like 50 for some reason, but I know Elizabeth is 37 (according to Shadow Lake), and 13 years is a big gap. Maybe he just looks older than he is?
Idk how I feel about this one, so I guess I'd give it a 5. I really wanted it to be higher.
