^lol, yup it was a good thing that door didn't fall on her. I think letting the Ps find her would be more effective than a phone call, they would come home to Claudia being like "look at what your 'angel' chose to do," and then when Jenny decides to come out -- because she couldn't hear anyone over the noise of the TV, right? -- finds not only Claudia but her hopefully angry parents.

I have a feeling though that the P's would have just blamed Claudia for being a poor sitter who couldn't control their angel.
I know someone said this earlier, but the subplot annoyed me. When the heck has there ever been a mention that these kids sit around watching tv? They have so many talent shows, plays and other things that I don't remember them just chilling out and watching tv.
I did really like this book. I always find it interesting to read about religious rituals. I did enjoy the candle lighting. I am not familiar with Jewish tradition, but this whole thing sounded like a big wedding? Are weddings different (other than people getting married) as far as the after parties etc?

I agree with both of you. BooBoo, I think Claudia (depending on how soon the P's were due home) could have made one attempt at reaching them before letting Jenny be. It seemed like (we can hope) she was safe in there, only concerned with the tv. For all we know she getting into her mother's makeup or dressing up. Now that what have been awesome. The P's come home to find Jenny dressed up in her Dad's old clothes, announcing that she's tired of wearing lace all the time--unlikely but a cool image nonetheless. Wiggirl, I could see that also, though it was Mrs. P that stuck up for Stacey in "Missing Ring." I sort of liked the subplot but agree it came out of no where, maybe only to be mentioned in passing (once) again? I know, the weirdest thing was at the kids' performance Mr. Hobart was in attendance. As far as I remember, none of his kids were in the play! Unless they were "crew" members.

Does it bug anyone else that this book takes place in April, where Abby's birthday is actually in October? I don't know that much about Bat Mitzvahs but do you usually celebrate them 6 months *before* your actual birthday?
Edit to add: I know the BSC has a messed up time-line, we discuss this often, but this would actually make Abby in Grade 7 -- not Grade 8.

^Yes! Abby's birthday is supposed to be October 15th. Since that was a later date, it was possible (like Mary Anne who had a September birthday) that she turned 13 after 8th grade began. That said, most Bar and Bat Mitzvah's take place immediately or as soon thereafter as possible following a child turning 13. Even if the Stevensons moved late August/early September and needed to find a new synagogue and/or time for setting a ceremony date, etc, there's no way (I don't think) in reality that would not have happened until the following April! What bugged me more was that in this BSC-land Abby and Anna (I think) only studied for their Bat Mitzvah's for 6 or so months. More like 2 intense years in the real world. Not counting a few years of religious school on weekends before that.

This was okay book. Abby should went to the library the third day, she wouldn't been caught with her mom.
Sub plot. So funny about the ban tv. When, the kids barely watch tv in other books. I wonder, how long the kids were watching? to get the ban tv. In Little sisters books. Karen mentions she can watch tv @ her dads house. But not @ her moms house.
I dont remember I was ban from watching tv, when I was child. But, i did go outside & play. or inside (depending on the weather.)

i always thought it was weird that it was never mentioned why brad simon was suspended in middle school vandal (which was published two months after this book), but i just reread this one and realized that abby never told the bsc what happened. but MA knew though, and i wish vandal could have included something like "nobody knows what happened. i thought i saw abby and MA exchange a look but didn't think anything of it, and suddenly the bell rang and i had to hurry to class, etc" or just something to show he was actually suspended for a good reason. i didn't like how it was never addressed, like they expected the readers to know and therefore refused to discuss it further, but that isn't really their style. i don't remember any mention of brad simon in any of the other books published in between either.

^Good point and one I never thought of. It would have also been interesting to read about when he returned to school. I wonder if the reason he was never mentioned again (not that this ever stopped any of the writers before) was as not to draw (more) attention to the time warp. I just checked and "Claudia and the World's Cutest Baby" is the next book. How fascinating might it have been if Claudia HAD mentioned Brad in terms of almost being jealous he got to miss some school? This would have worked MUCH better in "Middle School Dropout," but most any Claud book mentions her school issues. I think it might have been perfect tie in for the Serena McKay storyline. Maybe we finally could have read Claud's true thoughts on school and more about her family feelings.

Does anyone else think that Abby's outfit on the cover looks somewhat similar to Claud's on the cover of Perfect Boy!?
I enjoyed this book! I've been reading more Abby books back-to-back and I have to say that I seem to be enjoying her more and more (not that I disliked her before). I respect her athleticism and her ability to say what's on her mind. I would NEVER have back-talked a teacher nor would I have been able to erase messages from the school (I lived with my Nana and Popa who were always home anyway and my Nana was like a hawk and knew everything).
I agree that Abby's punishment was lame.
Inconsistency: (I will also put it in the inconsistency thread if I remember). Abby mentions her Mom has no siblings, but what about Abby and the Mystery Baby!?

^ Maybe this book was written before Abby and the Mystery Baby and if so, Rachel probably didn't mention the fact that she had a sister.

i am the same way. i have a half-brother i am not close to, and if someone asks about my family i tell them i have two sisters. family is a privilege, and if rachel feels like she doesn't have a sister after so many years, i wouldn't blame her.

Well if I remember correctly, in Abby and the Mystery Baby she knows that she has an aunt but temporarily forgets. In Abby's Lucky Thirteen she says how her mother has no siblings at all. So it doesn't add up

^ I guess it's an inconsistency then.
