As all the characters became caricatures, they lost anything more three-dimensional.

^ I agree.
Speaking of Sharon, so much could have been done with the Schafer/Spier family. Didn't Sharon's parents suppossedly not like Richard? In book #5, it seems he's found a way into their good graces by being a laywer. I wish this wouldn't have been resolved so easily - have them hate him! Or better! Have them hate Mary Anne! Or not really hate just....have them give her a hard time. They refuse to accept her. Whatever. Controversy! Drama! Gasp!
It also would have been nice to see a real relationship between Sharon and Mary Anne. Have Mary Anne go through internal struggles. Does Sharon like her? Is she being disloyal to her dead mom? And then this brings up issues with Dawn. (I mean, real ones, instead of "buh, you didn't give me a phone message - get out of my life....forever!") Dawn is suppossed to be all Gilmore Girl close with her mom. Okay. So she feels jealous when Mary Anne and her mom spend time together. Because Dawn was "taken" from her father, her friends, her life and then her twerp brother leaves and she feels so torn and full of loss so she clings to mom because mom's all she has left of her so-called family and now her best friend is getting in the way of this! And Richard is getting in the way of this! And they fight....and stuff...
*deep breath* It's probably a good thing I was not the author of this series....
Sorry for going so off-topic.... Welcome back, Stacey...

Have you read Friends Forever? There's a fair amount of text dedicated to the Schafer/Spier family, and Mary Anne/Sharon's relationship in particular.

NDJ1991, interesting. You should write a fan fic. I still wonder if any part of Sharon moved back to Stoneybrook in the hopes of reconnecting with Richard. We are told she chose CT for her parents (who she rarely saw) but surely, somewhere in the back of her mind the thought of Richard might have crept up.

greer - No, I've never read Friends Forever. (And I guess I'd prefer making a dork out of myself than "researching" what goes on in the books I've missed. *blush*) I plan on getting into them eventually - still kind of stuck on the original series. zoar3 - Maybe she never really got over Richard thus causing her divorce! As I've gotten older, the families have gotten more interesting. I wish the parents had been developed better.

^I never thought of that! The more times I re-read and yes the older I get, I, too, wish the parents had been developed better and that the BSC Members had spent more time with their families.

Does anyone think Maureen was being manipulative by moving back to Stoneybrook? She must have been pretty confident that Stacey would pick her if she did, and moving away from Stacey's dad guaranteed she would get Stacey for 95% of the time. If she had stayed in NYC she would have been forced with a 50-50 split. I just reread this one and I completely agree with this! There were some different times in the book when Stacey was upset or whatever and talking about NY and her mom would bring up Claudia or Kristy or something ridiculous. I definitely think she used the BSC in her game of "Stacey live with me" by letting Stacey stay overnight so that she would remember what life with her friends was like. Very impressive Mrs. McGill! I wonder if giving Stacey the choice was the right thing to do b/c she was probably left with a lot of guilt over making that choice. On the other hand, I guess I would be pretty pissed off if my parents decided it for me. I also don't think this divorce came out of nowhere. Maybe b/c I have been rereading the series and I knew it was coming. There were a lot of mentions of Stacey's parents fighting in the previous books.

I liked reading about Stacey, Claudia and Mrs. McGill looking for houses since I like seeing how different houses look on the inside. It was weird that Mrs. McGill spent so much money shopping and that Mr. McGill didn't notice it until the bill came. I know he's supposed to be a workaholic but it's still strange. I did like Dawn giving Stacey advice about the divorce and I think I would've liked it if they talked about the difficulites of their family's divorces in other books.

^ I enjoyed the house hunting trip too. I like watching "House Hunter" type shows on HGTV sometimes to see different homes, places, and families. Unless Mr. McGill was never home, brought his work home to the extent of being oblivious to his family (I don't think he was), or Maureen hid whatever she bought, it was unlikely that he'd never notice her purchases. The other thing is, why would Maureen be happy shopping that much to begin with? It seemed like she'd want to get a job or volunteer somewhere. I wish they had tried working things out or that we had seen Ed and Maureen try to do so.

I am a huge House Hunters fan and it definitely added something different to this book! I'm guessing maybe Maureen shopped so much to fill a void that was there due to her crappy marriage.

Cool! I actually like "Property Virgins," a little better despite Sandra's sometimes very high-pitched voice. That is probably why Maureen shopped so much. It just seemed like she had been doing so for awhile. If so, wouldn't that get old? More likely, someone notice? Shrug, maybe cause I am not a shop-a-holic. I do enjoy getting gifts for others and yeah it's fun spending birthday or holiday gift cards/money, I meant in general.

House Hunters is the best, especially International House Hunters where they go to Europe to look at "fixer uppers" which are usually like, 500 year old ruins.

Maybe Mr. McGill wouldn't let Maureen get a job? Zoar3 -- I love shows about Hoarders. It's a guilty plesaure. Anyway, there are some people who never get bored of shopping. I can't fathom that either, since I HATE to shop! lol

^Didn't Ed tell Maureen she should get a job? Lol, Feather, are you secretly hoarding BSC books and/or related stuff? Shopping and as a kid, hanging out at the mall was never an interest of mine. I will say some of the BSC's "malling" trips sounded like a lot of fun. But then, it would have been different with friends like that anyway.

Okay, I admit I'm a BSC book hoarder! lol. Hmm, maybe he did tell her to get a job. I don't remember. I'm going to have to start re-reading the books again, since they're fading from my memory lol.
