I always hated that the BSC gave her that test even though they didn't even know the answers in the first place. My theory was that they were missing Stacey and they took it out on Mallory. They didn't give Dawn a hard time when she first joined the club did they? They didn't give her any test, so I think they were just taking it out on Mallory. Yes, that's what I think too. Since their tune really changed from the last book to this one. It would've been nice to have the characters acknowledge that or at least discuss it. And maybe they were a little reluctant to let an eleven year old into the club, no matter how good she was. I liked how they all realized they were unfair to Mallory and admitted their wrong. I liked Jessi and Mallory's budding friendship here. I was about their age when I had my first, real best friend. Except I was the one who moved around a lot prior to entering Middle School. I also liked that the girls felt like 11 year olds and bonded over books/horses.

I agree that some of the hazing was probably due to missing Stacey. It's a real sign of loyalty when your friends think nobody could possibly replace you - similar to how they acted when Dawn left for California. They had really high standards and eventually decided not to replace Dawn at all.
I also think that some of it was their own issues seeing Mallory as an equal. I've definitely had moments where I look at my cousins (who have been cute little kids my whole life) and suddenly they are 16 and driving and I'm like, where did this person come from? And then Mallory, this young girl who they used to babysit (and really recently, I might add) is suddenly a possible coworker, and that can be jarring. I think the older sitters pushed back because it was hard to make that mental adjustment.

It was just human nature and psychology in action. One thing I loved about the series along with the Girl Talk series is that there was a lot of rich psychology in these stories...another marking of a great epic. So, yes, the BSC stories are an epic, not a soap opera.

I really liked this book. I guess it was mostly because it had that old timey feel because it was an earlier book. I received the graphic novel, Dawn and the impossible three, nine days before my birthday last year. I actually have all of the graphic novels (even Kristy’s big day, the new one) because I’m interested in collecting them. Anyways what I really wanted to say in the first place, was that in the the graphic novel of Dawn and the impossible three, they seem to also mix in some of the plot of Hello Mallory (when she’s trying very hard to join the club) but there’s no Jessi, which I didn’t like because Jessi was a huge part of this book.

I think they were missing Stacey and took it out on Mallory . They knew she was a good sitter and was probably more experienced than any of them . Nicky's accident wasn't even her fault like Kristy said it was .

This is probably the only time I really hated the girls. (And also in Mary Anne's Makeover). The way they treated Mallory is appalling. And they also blamed her for Nicky's accident when it wasn't even her fault. She wasn't sitting when the accident happened and everyone was home at the time. It was just an accident and the girls aren't perfect themselves.

I always have wondered if would you consider the harsh tests the girls gave to Mallory as a form of hazing?

Also since when's it's a crime for other girls who aren't members of the club to baby sit?? This crops up in later books too.

I always have wondered if would you consider the harsh tests the girls gave to Mallory as a form of hazing? It basically is. Plus I still think because they were missing Stacey and had to replace her they were picking on Mal. Mal has the most experience out of all them because of all those siblings she has. And none of those girls were perfect. There's been plenty of accidents on their own jobs . For example Jackie falling out of the tree in Kristys Bad Idea and Claudia breaking her leg.

Blurry, but Mallory looks very much herself on this. She looks cute! Jumper and all. That is an insane amount of graffiti on the SMS building.

This is cute, too. They all look snooty as hell behind Mallory. I like her happy drawing, like the game Operation with the guy who lets you harvest his organs.

I like to think her admission is based on how well she can draw the body. That's why Mary Anne and Kristy both seem more impressed than Claudia.

How cute is she with her Mallory jumper and heart tights? She looks so young. That is the most unnatural pose for Claudia's poor neck.
