They better take care of the complaints. I can only imagine somebody's surprise at seeing a rat in the toilet.

I have been afraid of snakes in toilets ever since I read a magazine article when I was little about someone's pet snake that wound up in the toilet bowl in another family's apartment. I usually check for snakes before I sit down. Even though the only other people who live in this building are our landlords, who are so not snake people.

The only "new" thing that jumped out at me this read around was how strange it was to not hear one word about any other group's project. We don't even know what authors the other BSC girls got let alone anything about how their projects went. I would have much preferred that as a subplot to the toilet monster--bring back the Delaneys! I also thought Mary Anne did indeed come across, particularly in the beginning, as though she were depressed and not just about Logan. I felt that maybe she thought getting back together with Logan would help her cheer up. Maybe that's just my still wishing we had gotten to read more of MA's perspective about the aftermath of the wedding and her new family. If each sitter's portrait had been a little longer and more personal, this could have made for an awesome backdrop to for us learning more about Alma and even Bill and Verna. Oh well, let's see if "Stacey and the Missing Ring," can perk me (and this re-read) up a little.

^ I never thought of it before, but you're right...they DON'T tell us who the other girls studied. Given the amount of time they spent discussing possible authors, you'd think that they'd at least drop some hints or something. I would have liked to know. It might have made the book a little too crowded, plot-wise, but we'd all be less curious right now.

^It is the littler things we all love to know. I do agree including that could have made for one jammed together book. Unless, as I said they ditched the Kormans and had MA missing Logan as the subplot and the authors as the main plot. It might have even worked as a super special of sorts with some sort of younger kids' writing activity (Abby and the Mystery Baby) as the subplot. Logan and MA could just have been woven in here and there.

I would have loved it if the Korman subplot had been left out of this book. I'd much rather have heard about the authors the other girls had to study. They did sit around at lunch and speculate quite a bit on what authors they'd be assigned. I remember Claudia throwing out the suggestions of Danielle Steel, Stephen King, and Louisa May Alcott, and the other girls were all "Ummm...Claudia, two of those write for adults, not kids, and the other one is dead. We're studying LIVE authors." lol!

^I always remember how she was made to feel stupid twice during that lunch! First with the Steel/King comment, and then the Alcott one. Poor Claud.

The only thing I thought new in this one was - why did that girl carry her broken bra around with her all day? You can't fix both straps breaking!!!!
Clearly this one bored me

^Maybe so her Pete "hate" could fester, IDK. Good question. Unless at a later time, she confronted Pete, demanding he fork over the money for the broken bra, which I don't see happening.

I think it was safer in her purse than a garbage can. I can picture some jerk (guy or girl) seeing her throw it away and being all "Whoo-hooo, dropped your bra!" This little story was always amusing to me because something similar happened to me in 7th grade.

I was picturing someone fishing it out of the trash and taping it to her locker...come to think of it, I'd just bury it under stuff in my locker for the day instead of carrying it around in my purse. Then again I didn't carry a purse around school. No one did. People would make fun of kids that carried around their backpacks to every class, I'm sure they would have had a lot more to say about someone carrying a purse...my classmates picked on the weirdest stuff.

I never realized before how much Claudia's outfit on this cover resembles the outfit the Claudia doll wore: You can't see it in the picture, but the Claudia doll was wearing a purple hat very similar to the one on the book cover. If you changed the vest color, I think they'd be practically the same outfit. Edit: Just realized that the Claudia doll isn't actually wearing the hat. You can see her purple hat in the bottom right corner of the box, near Jenny's feet.
