I usually like this one (more than the average BSC fan. I don't mind the sports books), but ngl, I'm kind of struggling to finish it this time XD. It's just weird how all the sudden so many kids are so into softball. Like what? I also truly think that Gabbie shouldn't have been on the team, mostly for SOME believability lol. Like sure, I buy Myriah and Claire being on the team. Jamie and Andrew even, but 2 and a half seems way too young to me.
Claire very specifically having baseball-related tantrums is actually kind of funny. Also, does anybody know if she ever hits a ball? I know most of us skip the sports chapters.
Weird thing I noticed: of all the BSCers besides Kristy (and Logan, but he's barely in this book), MALLORY knows the most about baseball and is the most helpful with it. I like this and prefer it over her total hatred of sports in #59. Also, Claudia is stated to hate sports, but she doesn't! She likes to ski and go boating (although to be fair, S.S. 3 and 4 haven't happened yet).
Best thing about this book is that it brings Watson and Kristy a little closer. It's more subtle than Shadow Lake, but it's there. He really supports her idea (and I agree it is a good one) and even takes time off work. That's a cool step-dad! I don't think this one is mentioned much in regards to Watson.

Mallory has athletic siblings and parents so I'd believe her knowing baseball from watching it. The sitters like to say they hate sports when really they mean they hate playing a team sport. They can watch sports or play individual sports with no problem.

I am Mallory. I don't want to play a sport ever, but I am entertained by watching. Watch enough of anything and you'll start picking up on the rules. Also, siblings are very useful for exposing you to things that you never wanted to know about.

That's true. I guess it just differs so much from late series Mallory, who wants nothing to do with sports. Here she doesn't seem to show any disdain, which is kind of cool (I really like how they made early Mal more level-headed). It's probably just flanderization (although she does get into archery... which was barely mentioned again).
