I see Stacey in the Hamptons much more than Abby.

the only abby/stacey chapters i can remember off the top of my head were in secret society, especially with the penguin search. that was fun to read. but in general i don't see them getting along all that well. they are pretty different when it comes to boys, personalities, hobbies, style.. etc.

Yeah, I just remembered how angry Stacey made Abby in Abby's Un-Valentine. I see your point, virgo, about their energies!

Just reread. I alternated between feeling a little sad while reading Abby's chapters and happy while reading the ones with the Pikes. I have to agree with those that wished that we could've found out once and for all about whether Gram did have cancer. Loved the part where Mrs. Pike squirts her sons. Thought that Kristy didn't need to be there at the end. The book made me wish that Anna would've joined the BSC instead seeing how the club already had a sporty chick. When Abby mentioned that both the alternate officer & president weren't there at the meetings, it made me think what about Claudia as the veep? I wished Ann would've put a picture of the family tree in the book. And when Kristy mentioned that she forgot her costume and Abby went and got a paper bag, I thought she was going to put it over her head. Oh, and how did 13 year old Stacey manage to get permission for all of those kids to tour the fire & police depts. just by letting them know the night before?

Pretty good writing of Abby, similar to how she was before but pretty toned-down and a lot more likeable. I got the sense that she really cared for her family, especially her grandmother-and also really respected her desire for privacy.
The breast cancer information and plot felt a little odd around the typical lightness (and some of it felt very PSA-informational) but it fit in well enough.
I thought the backyard vacation was one of the better subplots/baby-sitting chapters the series had had in a while.

I haven't read this book in ages, but I LOVED it when I was little. It had a completely different feel from other BSC books, and Abby is my favorite sitter so I liked seeing her in the spotlight. Abby's chapters just felt really mature and real.
I also really enjoyed the backyard beach vacation! I don't love the Pikes normally but that was a lot of fun.

This was okay book. First time reading this book. Anytime I saw the cover of the book. I thought it was going be a play, at the school. Abby plays Alice In Wonderland. One of the other female students, wants to play Alice In Wonderland. Abby and the BSC members was going make sure that female student wasn’t going to get the main character Alice. When I star reading the book. Then they mention Abby’s grandma having a secret. I’m wondering what the secret could be. I thought maybe Abby’s grandma. Got pregnant before marriage. She didn’t want the family to know. Read some more. Turns out her grandma might have breast cancer.
Subplot: Of course, the Pike family. Sound like fun having Sea City coming to your house. Decorating like beach theme. I laughed when the triplets was using the hose. Got their mother wet. Then she got them with a squirt gun.

It's so interesting that your mind first thought of a baby out of wedlock! That wouldn't have been very scandalous in my family, so it didn't occur to me that someone would want to hide it.

You're talking about a different generation also. It was scandalous to even live together before marriage.

Yeah, you guys are right. I was born in 1989 so Ann is older than both of my parents (just barely for my mom though). And a baby before marriage probably would have been a lot more controversial in my family if I didn't grow up with cousins born to unmarried parents - I'm betting there was plenty of fuss at the time.

I remember not really understanding this book when I was younger and tended to skip it. Rereading it now I was expecting all the build up for her to announce that she did have cancer.
It was great to hear more about Abby's family. They even mentioned that some of her family had died in the Holocaust and even distant cousins brought up. I'm pretty sure that we don't know about the regular sitters extended family so it's nice to see Abby's extended on.
The Pike family beach in the backyard was fun to hear about but not all that interesting. I'd be tired of it too if I was Mr. and Mrs. Pike. Although I really like how Mrs. Pike doused the triplets with a super soaker.

I liked the subplot with the Pikes' at-home beach vacation more than I liked the main plot. I liked when Mrs. Pike got the triplets with the Super Soaker, too!
Not much happened in the main plot. Abby worried silently, went to the library, and made some phone calls to her other relatives to convince them to go to the party. I did like reading about the Alice in Wonderland party and all the costumes, though. I didn't mind that we didn't find out in this book whether Gram Elsie had cancer or not, but it would have been nice to have some follow-up in the rest of the series instead of never hearing about it again.

I see Stacey in the Hamptons much more than Abby. Truth be told, I actually see Karen Brewer and Hannie Papadakis and occasionally Kristy and Claudia as adults in the Hamptons beaches the most. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
