all fake sugar is gross to me. it takes forever to get that taste out of your mouth. i just don't see how it's better for you than regular sugar, unless you have a disease like diabetes. When I was a kid I loved diet Coke (still do, but the sweetener makes me sick), and my pediatrician told my mother that if I was going to have soda, to have the non-diet kind because the sweetener was much worse for you (maybe just children, though, I dunno). And I have a friend whose health is much dodgier than Stacey's (girl's been in a fair amount of comas in her day) and she can have a handful of candy whenever she pleases. Maybe it was just really different in the 80s, but Stacey's strict diet seems a tad unrealistic to me...

^ Like I said, I think all diabetics are different. My aunt is a diabetic and I know several kids who are and all of them actually have stricter diets than Stacey. There may also be other issues involved (my aunt has also developed many food allergies....) that the books don't bring up. As for fake sugar, my mom is like Claudia and loves sugar and absolutely hates any kind of artificial stuff. ;D

The artificial stuff sucks and that includes any sweet things made with that crappy Splenda, baked potato chips and the like ;D. My only exception is those 100 calorie pack things, those are good when you need a snack during the day .

I don't like sugar. I like diet soda and try to keep away from sweets (except for chocolate things -- I love chocolate). Sometims I make stuff for the holidays but I don't eat a lot of it.

wow, how can your diet be stricter than stacey's? my mom does too, aln, and so do i. ;D Some of the dietary restrictions are mostly things from problems caused by the diabetes and they also are stricter about actually counting calories and balancing the different groups, etc - stuff the books say that Stacey does but we don't actually see much of sometimes. ;D Sorry for not being more clear on this. I was kind of worked up while writing my last post because I'm really upset about my aunt right now (her eye surgery that I mentioned the other day did not go well and she can't see at all now - cornea is scratched - and it might be permenant.... ) so I think it might be a good idea for me to not read any of the Stacey diabetes books right now ;D (actually they sometimes make me feel better, for some reason).

Coke zero tastes a lot better than diet, IMO. I honestly can't tell the difference between artificial sweeteners and sugar; I actually like the taste of sweet n low in my coffee better than real sugar.

Coke zero tastes a lot better than diet, IMO. I'm so addicted to Coke Zero. It tastes better than regular Coke to me. I tried a regular Coke the other day for the first time in over 2 years and it just made me sick. I can't stand Diet Coke either.

I tried Coke Zero for the first time a couple of days ago and liked it, but don't know if I could tell the different between it and regular and diet. I don't drink Coke very much anyway, though.

I like Pepsi better then coke, but I like water best of all. (But I also love caffeine and need it to survive, so I drink a lot of things that are really bad for me. Like Sugar Free RedBull and sugary things from Starbucks.)

Thanks, everyone. ;D I like Coke Zero much better than diet coke (it is better than it used to be, though. Used to taste like acid water ;D) I'm also more of a pepsi person but drink a lot of water lately. Speaking of sugar free stuff and diet pop, is caffeine free diet available at a lot of places in different areas (restaurants, etc)? We can find quite a bit of it around here in MI but when we go to the south, they never have it. My dad was in FL on business once and had to go to six gas stations to find a can of diet caffeine free pepsi....

That's weird aln, because my dad lives in florida and they don't drink caffiene, so they always have to specially-buy non-caffiene-free for me when i visit. I've only seen it in supermarkets though, and never restaurants. do they have it in restaurants in mi?

^not typically. I don't like the caffiene free stuff, but my aunt always has a stockpile at her house. I havne't noticed it on menus, but I suppose that doesn't mean much.
