It was a little contrived for Shannon to think Bart was sending threats (I guess he really is so competitive or comes off that way) but otherwise this book was really well-done creepy and, more so than in books 2 and 17, it wasn't so obvious who the villain was and how the story would conclude. I agree. I don't like looking out the window at night because of this book. It's been probably at least 15 years since I first read this book and that is still with me.

I just re-read this book for my blog. It really makes me wish Shannon was around more! I don't remember her being in this book so much. She's super cool. I like seeing her get to know the rest of the BSC. I'm excited to read the next few ones to see if Shannon pops up again.

The 60s and 70s I think.

Minus Cokie's death threats and Bart's gooey love notes , I enjoyed this book because I got to see Kristy acting like a real life thirteen year old girl for once. I also loved the Halloween Hop and how Kristy got her first kiss.
And the pizza Kristy and Bart won sounded delicious. Even with the anchovies put on it. (And I usually hate anchovies!)

I've never tasted anchovies. I like that it's a running joke in the books. Maybe I will order it this weekend -- I'm going to a baby's birthday party, something I usually avoid, to get free pizza. Lol

I've never tasted anchovies, either. I've literally never seen a person eat anchovy pizza in real life!

I've tasted anchovies before and I didn't like it.

Am the only one who suspected Shannon of writing the notes? lol. I was convinced it was her until Bart admitted her wrote some of the notes. I thought that maybe Shannon had a crush on Bart and didn't like that he liked Kristy. I'm glad it didn't turn out that way but it would've made more sense than it being Cokie. That just seemed so random.
It was funny how casual this book was about it being the second Halloween of their 8th grade year. lol.
My favorite part of the book was actually the dance. It was funny how relived Kristy was to be able to wear a Lobster costume instead of a dress. lol. Kristy's first kiss was a sweet scene and kind of appropriate for someone her age.

Several things wrong with this one : Kristy gets threatning letters and didn't even tell her mother and Watson ? I'd be calling the police especially over the note that said I'll see you when you're dead.
Why would a kidnapper kidnap Kristy ? She's just Watson's stepdaughter not his blood relation . Shannon was right the kidnapper would go for Karen or Andrew . M
Even in book 38 she's still thinking Watson's house as his house and not hers .

Whenever there's a mystery, the BSC NEVER tells the adults because "I don't want to worry them!" I feel like that happened in all the mystery books, even ones when they're in danger.

Definitely agree. It's one of the big reasons that the mystery books were unsuccessful (in my opinion). I also grew up reading Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys and I could believe the situations those characters were in. They didn't involve parents because they were themselves adults. "I didn't want to scare my parents" is a lazy way of making the girls independent protagonists of their own stories and keeping a story going.

He loved her as his own. Regardless, she would be easier to grab as she was tiny and ran around the neighborhood on her own.

It's fuzzy, but I think she's happy? I love her jammies. Claudia should wear those as a going out outfit. Titles are the same: Gertie and the secret admirer Christine’s secret admirer Kristy and the mysterious admirer

No French cover? I really liked this one when I was younger, and I still like it. The Krushers winning is pretty cool. I liked that we saw a lot more of Shannon in this book, and this is probably my favorite book that she has a prominent role in (even though honestly she seems a LOT like Stacey, so she doesn't stand out for me). I wish they'd developed their friendship more... I remember a plot in a late series book about it (Kristy being jealous I think), but I have no idea which one it was. I liked Kristy and Bart growing up and I still like them, although his notes might have been a little too much. The being in love stuff is kind of intense, then they're just sort of dating until #95. Kinda weird. I'm starting to like the subplots less, but I actually wanted to see the Pikes try to set up their haunted house. There was only one chapter devoted to the planning of it. That would've been kind of a fun subplot. I think it would be too much, though, with the "World Series" (only ONE game?) and the mystery admirer stuff. Oh well. I do think it's silly they didn't suspect Cokie, and that Cokie accidentally let the cat out of the bag at the game. Kind of a letdown even though I expected it. They didn't solve anything! I'm not sure I buy Kristy intimidating her either, but as a kid I thought that was really cool lol. The sleepovers in these books make me so nostalgic. I miss sleepovers! They're some of my favorite memories from my teen years. Cool that Shannon attended this one as well. This is one of the better Kristy books imo.

Yes, this one is fun. It has something for everyone - sports, romance, suspense.
