^ maybe it was just added in as a little "conversational" comment, like every time they said "We get about a million jobs (well not really)" as if we don't know what exaggeration or sarcasm is.

I just read this book for the first time. I really liked it! It was weird, though, how "The Group" just kind of came out of nowhere. Also, in the book right before this one (Get Well Soon, Mallory!), Stacey is just as dorky as the other girls, planning Thanksgiving stuff for the nursing home residents, so it was weird to see her in with the popular kids in the very next book. Kristy and Claudia were kind of bitchy, always rolling their eyes or laughing at Stacey whenever she mentioned cheerleading, but I loved how supportive Mary Anne and Jessi were. MA was really sweet, telling Stacey that if she were a cheerleader, MA wouldn't be able to concentrate on watching the game. It was cool to see Stacey & Jessi hanging out, too. The ending was kind of lame, though. There's NO WAY a 13 year old boy would have such a problem with receiving special treatment that he feels the need to quit the team. He would've been basking in all that special treatment in real life. And the editorial he and Stacey wrote in the school newspaper had me rolling my eyes, too. But overall I really liked this book. Stacey was really likeable in it. Oh, but of course it's another example of the BSC being AMAZING at everything they do. Stacey is just SO talented, SO pretty, SO smart, and SO nice that she intimidates the most popular girls in school. Okay...

ITA about Jessi/MA/Stacey. I liked reading about Jessi helping Stacey out, pretty random pairing and those are always fun to read about. Oh yeah and major ditto on the Robert thing. SO DUMB.

personally i still just can't get over the HUGE deal that was made about a middle school basketball team. also, i'm confused...where did this huge religion tangent come from?

^ Don't know about the basketball issue but know I accidentally started the religion tangent with one comment (just saying it was another thing that wasn't mentioned or made a big deal of). I really don't want to get back on that because it got way out of hand, was totally off topic for this book, and wasn't meant to turn into that. Just wanted to answer this before someone else picked up that debate again and take the "blame" for that one ;D As for this book, I haven't read it much but remember liking it (except it does have too much Robert for my liking ;D) Just read the comments by hitzpink and sotypical about Jessi and Stacey hanging out and I enjoyed this, too. Always liked it when the jr members spent time with the older girls and when the "non best friends" pairs spent time together (Kristy and Claud's double date in another book is a good example).

personally i still just can't get over the HUGE deal that was made about a middle school basketball team. Agreed. When I was in junior high school nobody cared about any of the sports teams. Not even the football team, which is generally considered to be the most popular. The kind of attention those boys were getting is definitely something that would be found in a high school, not a middle school.

^ I don't even remember whether or not my middle school HAD a football or basketball team. Just know they did have a girls' volleyball team because my aunt and uncle coached. But in the BSC, middle school is like high school, I guess. To give more support to that point.... I asked my mom if the track tryouts in Logan's Story were plausible since she coached both Middle and High School track and she said that it would be really doubtful that type of thing would happen in Middle School since everyone usually made the team. But this is a world where 13 year olds are expected - and able - to get jobs. I usually don't think about this much because I picture them as like 17 instead of 13, which puts them in HS (except maybe Claudia - "middle school dropout" ;D )

^ I was on my middle school cheerleading team for 1 year, and I stunk. I only made it because everybody who tries out makes the team. They were just glad that we wanted to do some exercise outside of P.E. (you know with childhood obesity being so rampant in the U.S. and all). And there definitely were no favoritism shown by the teachers.

I just reread this one and didn't care for it much this time. For some reason, it kind of bored me. Not sure if maybe it was just the mood I was in. I also got tired of Stacey going on about how wonderful Robert is because I can't see it and completely can't stand him. Maybe I didn't like it, either, that I could feel her starting to get snobby about the BSC - foreshadowing to Stacey vs the BSC in which she makes me really mad. As for the subplot, I didn't care for it at all. I just can't get into the Kilbourne fights. I did enjoy how the BSC was supportive of the cheerleading after they got over their initial surprise. I loved how Jessi helped with the routine as I always enjoy reading about her relationship with the older girls.

Robert hasn't cheated on Stacey at this point, so I don't find anything wrong with him in this book...

I just really like Jessi as a person. She is someone I think I would want to be friends with in real life (actually, most of the members I would want to be friends with) , so I really enjoy seeing the others appreciate her. I don't think Mallory and Jessi get enough credit because they are younger, but they are really often the members that are most sensible in situations.

^ I agree. I think I would most like to be friends with Jessi and Mal (though I don't think I would actually get along well with most of the other girls ;D) and agree they don't get enough credit. They tend to be mature and responsible. Maybe I like them, too, because they are always supportive and tend to stay out of the older girls' fights - like in this book.
