First, I was happy to find this thread because the link in the list of books didn't work and I couldn't find a way to post there.
Second, I like Wendy. She sounds like a good babysitter, though a bit inconsiderate not calling to say she would be late. But yeah, she knew Jessi would be babysitting too and since she didn't know the rules of the club and thought it would be more of a fun thing, I can't blame her too much.
Third, it would be interesting to see what would happen if Wendy joined up with some other babysitters, such as Erica, and they started their own network. Instead of regular meetings, one person would keep track of their schedules and refer parents to available sitters. Maybe Mallory, tired of being ignored by her so-called friends, would dump the BSC and join them.

I like Wendy. I thought, she was good baby-sitter. Kristy & the rest of them, didn't tell Wendy the rules. That's their job, telling the rules. I didn't like Kristy in this one too mean. To Wendy, Mallory, & Jessi.
Friday traffic is hectic. Not mention, if theirs a car accident, road construction, & the heavy traffic. If, takes half hour from ballet class to BSC meeting. We know, in fiction, Jessi usually makes it, on time (maybe 10r 2minutes late.) But, in reeal life, could 45 minutes or more. To get anywheres, if it's only half hour away.
I wasn't crazy about the Snow White & the 7 Zorbs. But, I do like looking around @ the party store.

I can sympathize with Wendy because I would probably have acted a lot like her in the situation.

^ I wasn't a fan of the entire play either but I loved the planning for it. In fact, the original meeting (dialog writing) with MA.
I agree Wendy starting her own baby-sitting business would have made for an interesting plot. I also had the thought she might have been the perfect person (an outsider/newcomer) to question why Mal was sitting for her 10 year old brothers. That, I would have loved to read.

I'd only read this book once when it was first published, so when I reread it recently, I was really surprised how much I liked the Snow White and the Seven Zorbs subplot. I think it just bored me the first time I read it, when I was 13, but now I think it's really cute, mainly because it's exactly the way little kids act when they're putting on a play. Lots of books make it seem like Ann and the ghostwriters have never interacted with a real child, but this one really nailed it. I especially loved the line "What a beautiful day! I think I'll pollute it."

^ I loved that line, too! Suzi was really cute in this book. And every time I re-read, I'm reminded of how 1990's it is with all the mentions of Captain Planet and troll dolls.

I remember the first time I saw this book was in a used bookstore back in my hometown, probably when I was just starting out high-school. The colour of the cover seems to blind you - almost lemoney yellow. That always stuck in my mind.
And the orange carpet, ugh. I know it's almost Hallowe'en in the book but orange? For realz?

The title is misleading, she was not a bad baby sitter at all. I was preparing myself for the worst. Why couldn't they have made her an associate member?

kristy probably wouldn't have let her join, and i don't think wendy would want to work under kristy anyway. i wouldn't blame either of them.

^ yeah, that's a good point. Some people might be just fine as individuals, but when you put them together? Disaster. Wendy was much to freewheeling to deal well with Kristy's regimented style of doing things. I could see her doing well in a quirky, fun, bring your dog to work kind of job someday, whle Kristy would do fine in the traditonal 9 to 5 world.

I didn't mind anything with Kristy and her rules in this one. She was upfront about what she expected. (I always agree with her that they were "more of a business than a club".) The only time I was like, uh no, was when she tried to say that Wendy's regular charges would have to be offered to everyone. I don't know how she planned on forcing the kids' parents to call the club.
