Re-read this one because... I don't know lol, I guess I thought I'd like it more this time? I kind of did, since I just skipped the subplot.
Yeah, this book is just really poorly written. The fight is just so sudden (and dumb), and I agree that Richard and Sharon should have stepped in earlier. Also, Dawn says she's more relaxed about housework like her mom. Isn't she supposed to be neat and organized?
There actually is a lot of foreshadowing for Big Move. Idk how I missed it earlier.
As annoying as Jeff is in this, to be honest, I can see how he'd be very uncomfortable about this vacation. It's just weird (this whole book is). It should have been scheduled when Dawn or Sharon were free. I like Richard (favorite BSC parent), but Jeff doesn't know him. I can't imagine how weird it must be to hang out with your stepfather that you barely know while everyone else is at work/ school.
One line really stood out to me this time. Idk why, but it broke my brain. It's when Mary Anne and Dawn are figuring out outfits for the family portrait: "Mary Anne went to her closet and hauled out every dress she’d bought in the past three years into my room." What?! Mary Anne has been buying dresses since she was 10? She still fits into them? Or do they mean BSC "years?" This line! It bugs lol.

Dawn is neater than Sharon (everyone is) but nowhere near Richard's neatness. I haven't read this book in a while so I don't remember the context. Did she mean more relaxed about housework than Richard and Mary Anne? Dawn is pretty tidy so it doesn't make sense. But also if I'm defending my parents I'll say anything to back them up, even if it's blatantly false.
Mary Anne is petite, but three years ago she would have been a petite 10 year old! They must be talking about time warp years, haha.

In comparison to Richard, she is more relaxed, though. I think I'd probably likely she was just defending Sharon (although in-text). Ikr?! It was such a weird line.
