I will change my sig, it was a picture of the BSC members from the TV show. Thanks for letting me know about that - that was weird! Definitely strange. ;D I just assumed you didn't want that big orange square for your sig. ;D I like the picture. I missed the recess thing. That does seem odd. I'll have to look for it next time I read this one.

The recess in KGI was weird to me. They're in middle school, not elementary school. I have never heard of anyone in MS/JH having "recess" My least fave part of this book is definitely the 4 sitting chapters in a row. Yeah, I didn't like the 4 sitting chapters in a row either. They should've spread them out a little. I thought the whole recess thing in KGI was strange too until I got to middle school and had recess from 6th-8th grade and I remember thinking to myself, "So this is what it was like at recess for the BSC," ;D.

I always thought it was odd that they had recess in middle school. I don't know anyone who did. I still had recess in 6th grade, but 6th grade was still elementary school where I was. We had a lunch break in middle school, and a mid-morning break and a lunch break in high school where we could pretty much do whatever we wanted, but no recess. I actually kind of miss recess, even now.

^ Middle started in 6th for me, too. When I was in 6th, I remember going in the gym or outside after lunch so if "recess" is like a free period, I guess I did have it. It was boring, though. The boys would play bball and the girls would stand around and talk and watch them. I was like, "let's just go home earlier" After I was homeschooled, I got a lot of "recess" every day. ;D ;D

These days even a lot of elementary schools have no recess. Ick! Children need to have some unstructured, running around time!

Believe it or not, I used to play horses with my best friend at recess. Every time I read this book, it amazes me how realistically 12 they sound and act. I love it, even though I have some favorites among the later books as well.

I went to a K -8 program, and we had recess. I liked it up until the park that we would walk to closed and we no longer had tennis courts to practice on. (yes, my friends and I were THAT serious about our tennis.) After that we were expected to "play" in the parking lot, except were weren't actually allowed to play anything because we would get hurt. It was always horrible in winter, we just stood around and shivered for 20 minutes.
I figure recess was necessary, both because us kids needed the break (my school was pretty intense, academically, especially compared to the public schools students we shared busses with) and so the teachers could have a break.

we had two half-hour long recesses and had the best playground, even though it had two cemetaries.

Believe it or not, I used to play horses with my best friend at recess. I did too. ;D I think of this every time the books mention stuff about Mal and Jessi's horse craziness. ;D

^Loved recess. And I often thought we should have had naptime all through elementary, not just in kindergarten

^I hated naptime, even in kindergarten. I thought it was so stupid. I never took naps at home, so why should I take them at school? There was one girl who got out of it, because she would get nosebleeds. So I would get up and blow my nose every two minutes. I've never been one for wasting time (until recently with LJ and this board and some tv shows that I blame my ex roommate about), so it was just.. irritating. Why sleep in the middle of the day, on the floor? I remember being left at a friend of my moms when I was 7 or 8 (I usually watched myself if it was a few hours, but longer I needed a sitter) and she tried to make me take a nap, and I was all "Um, excuse me?" and I climbed out the window. I was such a brat.

Haha to climbing out the window! I liked naptime because everyone settled down for awhile. Sometimes class just got too noisy for me. We didn't actually nap, just whispered to our friends and stuff. If anyone actually did fall asleep, I think we would make fun of them a little

^Naptime at my school wasn't like that. We had to lay down and we weren't allowed to talk to each other or read. I think they checked to make sure our eyes were closed. And I was seriously just not tired during the day.
