This is my favorite Dawn book in the California Diaries. I liked that Elizabeth Grace was born and that Dawn took Betsy to see her. I also liked that Dawn and Jill spoke to each other, even though they're still not friends. However, there is one thing that bothered me. The journal entries are in June, which means that Dawn is now 14 but some reason, she wrote that she's 13. I know that in the Babysitters Club, starting from book 10 and onwards, everyone is frozen at a certain age. But because California Diaries is supposed to be more realistic, shouldn't Dawn be 14? The only reasons I could think of for writing that she's 13 is that if Dawn became 14 and still had a chapter one of the super specials, the Babysitters Club Friends Forever Graduation Day would then have been the first super special and another super special would have had to be written to end the series, and everyone in Stoneybrook would have had to be aged as well.
Thoughts?

Time warp again . I never really paid much attention to the dates in the diaries so I didn't notice. This is my least favourite Dawn book. She comes of as really whiny and she's such a b*tch to Sunny in this one.

Yeah, the age thing didn't bother me either.
This one is good. I like the end of school feel and the birth of Gracie is exciting. I also like that they would gather in Carol's room, talking about names. Baby-naming is fun.

I like the third diary better then her second. In the second there seemed to be a heavy implication that Dawn and Jeff will not be the focus of Jack's attention now (or maybe it's because I never really liked CD Dawn and always wanted her to go to CT).

^ I Like CD Dawn better than the Baby-Sitters' Club Dawn. She became annoying and selfish to me as the in the latter series as it went on.

Yeah, I definitely prefer Dawn in CD. Some Dawn books (like Dawn Saves the Planet) are unreadable for me. I can read CD over and over.

^ CD Dawn seems like more likeable, or at the least, more tolerable to me than in the BSC. Probably because it's not mentioned what an individual she is in the CD (and there aren't many instances which show that show she's no individual in CD as well) and there are no fights between her and Mary Anne.

There's no fights between her and Mary Anne, but her most major plot point is her fight with Sunny. One step forward, two steps back.

I probably didn't make myself clear. Yes, there no fights between Dawn and Mary Anne in CD since Mary Anne is only mentioned. And the amount of fights in CD is obviously less. There is only one major fight in CD involving Dawn, which isn't petty, while in the BSC there are mulitple petty fights involving Dawn.

I think Dawn was very petty in CD. Sunny's mom is dying; cut her some slack. But YMMV.

Well, Dawn should cut Sunny some slack since it's Sunny's mom who's dying. Do you think Dawn was petty in the argument with Sunny about what happened with Carol? She did say to Sunny that she didn't appreciate her mother. BTW, what does YMMV mean?

You just stated the reason why I can't stand CD Dawn: the whole Sunny vs Dawn conflict was a plot device to give those two a storyline. Early BSC Dawn I love, because she seemed genuine and caring and sweet, and then they turn her into a b*tch and send her to California!

I think that Carol, Jack, and Mrs. Bruen all forgave Sunny so easily because they have the maturity and life experience to understand what Sunny's going through, whereas Dawn, at thirteen, doesn't really get it.

When I was younger I think I may have sided with Dawn more in the Sunny/Dawn fight, but now I see how easy it was for Sunny to react the way she did. I can't judge Sunny because I don't know how I would react if I was in that situation. I do think Dawn should have cut Sunny some slack, but on the same token she had every right to be hurt. It took two people for that fight in my opinion.

^ That's true, it does take two people for that fight (or any fight, for that matter). That's why I don't take Sunny or Dawn's side in this fight. But I have to admit, I didn't feel too sorry for Sunny when everyone was upset with her and let her know about it.
