I just posted this on the LJ community, but it SO bears repeating. I am not making this up. The Summer Before by Ann M. Martin Hardcover: 224 pages Publisher: Scholastic Inc. (April 1, 2010) ISBN-10: 0545160936 ISBN-13: 978-0545160933 "Before there was the Baby-Sitters Club, there were four girls named Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, and Stacey McGill. As they start the summer before seventh grade (also before they start the BSC), each of them is on the cusp of a big change. Kristy is still hung up on hoping that her father will return to her family. Mary Anne has to prove to her father that she's no longer a little girl who needs hundreds of rules. Claudia is navigating her first major crush on a boy. And Stacey is leaving her entire New York City life behind... "...in order to find new friends in Stoneybrook, Connecticut. "The Summer Before . . . is a sweet, moving novel about four girls on the edge of something big - not just the Club that will change their lives, but also all the joys and tribulations of being twelve and thirteen." OMG OMG OMG squee!

I really, really thought AMM would never have anything to do with the BSC again! I assume she's really the one who's going to write it. Do you think there's a chance it will have a ghostwriter?

There better not be a ghostwriter! I doubt it. She's been writing a lot, and 2010 will be the 10 year anniversary of the last BSC book coming out.

That will be great fun! You're sure it's real, right, given the publication date?

^ god i hope not. I noticed the date too. Amazon's pretty legit though, right? I hope? I mean it has an ISBN # If it were some mean prank wouldn't they do it when they're all older? Lol that's what my hopeful self is telling myself

I would feel more inclined to think it was a prank if the book were a sequel (with the girls having a reunion in college or as adults) instead of a prequel.
BSC fans would go crazy for a prequel, but they would go absolutely batshit for a sequel.

I am going to buy it right away. I fear though that it might just be a hashing of stuff we already know from the main series. Hopefully she puts a few gems of info in there.

I'd prefer a sequal, but hey, I take what I can get!

!!!! This is just unbelievably dibble. I wouldn't be as thrilled by the idea of a reunion, but this is great.
