When someone you knew is just too self assured, they sounded annoying instead... And sometimes Dawn could be really mean ..

I think you'll find that a lot of people on this board don't like Dawn!

I know, I don't! I also don't think Dawn was self-assured at all. Self-righteous, yes, self assured or confident, not so much.

Dawn seems to be one of those people who is so passionate about what she believes to be right that she can come across as really overbearing to those who aren't as into her causes as she is. I can actually relate to Dawn as that's a personal challenge that I also share with her, so I don't dislike her but I can understand why people do!

I never understood why self-assured, individual, and not caring what other people thought were Dawn's "things." With the exception of Mary Anne and maybe Mallory, none of the girls seemed to have many issues with self-confidence or worrying about what other people thought of them, so I don't know why it was always attributed to Dawn as if it were such a special, unique thing about her. Especially because half the time Dawn DID seem to care about others' opinions.

^ Maybe Ann didn't know what else to give Dawn. Like Stacey was the sophisticated one, Claudia's good at art, etc., and Ann just had a mental blank with Dawn.

I think the "not caring what anyone thinks" was more related to her love of health food and the environment, stuff most kids her age weren't into.

I personally love Dawn! I really just love that she was so different than the other girls. I think my main reasoning though is because she was from California and she was very health cautious and into the environment which I was at the time I started reading the books

In some books I like her, but in the ones I don't, I really can't stand her!

The fact that, in New York, New York!, Dawn screams when the Cummings' doorbell rings makes me like her a bit more. The whole insanity and hilarity of the entire situation is golden!!!

I personally think that the whole "is an individual" attribute is more a vibe and attitude that all of them got from her instead of it being something that can be explicitly displayed.

Some books she's okay in and some she just bugs me. I really liked her though in the mystery books that I read by her.

Dawn was my favorite at certain points during my childhood. I think she needs therapy pretty badly. I mean, she stole a credit card and spied on Stacey.

Oddly, I can't remember having any opinion at all on Dawn when I was younger. Like, not one single feeling one way or another. I remember Stacey being my favorite, and not liking Mallory and Jessi, and disliking the parts of Mary Anne I identified with, etc. But Dawn? Completely blank.
Strange, since now she's one of my favorites (among my top three, of her, Mallory and Shannon). But I realize it's mostly in how I interpret her, and I understand why others would interpret her differently and dislike her.
