I was actually a body double for one of the main actors. It was a cool experience for a first-year university job, but one bad thing is that sometimes I worked for 12 hours on set, which meant I missed classes :S
Kristy and the Little Vampires would make sense on many accounts: 1) it was the actual name of the film and 2) using "little" would mean kids, which is what the BSC is all about anyway.

That's still pretty cool, were you in acting?

No, I just got scouted because I looked like one of the main actors.

that's such a cool job. my dad is an engineer and built some stuff for a movie a few years ago, and being on the set was awesome. i'd love to be involved in that kind of stuff every day.

I would love to make extra cash on the side to be an extra in movie scenes, like part of a crowd or something like that.

I thought this one--mystery aside--was a welcome breath of BSC air. I still wish we had gotten to read more about the actual movie as it was filmed along with some dialog. It sounded like Todd had more than just a one or two day part--I would have enjoyed hearing some of his takes on the film. I also had the wild and random thought of how cool it would have been had the Masterses asked Kristy to come to CA to continue "watching Derek" until the film ended. I get the idea was to bring in Dawn, though we never first-hand (thankfully ) read about her on the set. It just could have added a totally "new" dimension to a BSC story!

I can't remember if I brought this up before and don't feel like checking, but if you're a minor, shouldn't a legal guardian be on the set and not 13 year olds?

You would think so, but with the bsc, they don't need any parental guidance!!
Virgo, which actor did you look like? I used to love that show!
Claire's part in this still annoyed me. I think it's so dumb that she dressed up like a witch. I do love that mal got picked to be in the movie though...finally something cool for he to do.

Supprazz, I would sure think so. It would have been much more believable had either Mr. or Mrs. Masters been present every day but also asked one of the girls to come as well simply for an extra set of eyes or if each of the boys was needed in a different place.
Wiggirl, I thought the Claire's costume idea was clever it just took a little too long to get to that point. I loved that Mal had a part, wish it were a bigger one.

Funny thing is, he's pretty short (maybe around 5'8) and I'm 6 feet, so I always thought that ruined the similarity ... but no one else seemed to notice or care!

^ Maybe the height difference didn't show so much on camera?
Also, YES to the whole legal guardian thing. You'd think that parents would WANT to be around to see their kids film something, even if they weren't required to be.

I agree with everything zoar, I can understand them being there as mother's helpers. And it's not something to be taken lightly, cause say Derek was injured in that accident that was stopped, there would be a liability issue and the parents and actor's union would all be under fire.

^Exactly. Particularly because this "movie" was a consistent "shoot," that required both Todd and Derek to be on set (it sure sounded like) all day, most everyday, that their parents would want to part of that with them. IIRC other than the day of Todd's accident and possibly one other occasion when Mr. Masters was present, the care of both boys was totally left to Claudia and Kristy. Since it sounded like the same arrangement was made in "CA," that was "worse" to me (I still cannot fathom where a movie studio is hiding around Anaheim), simply because the location is so much huger than Stoneybrook.

^Yikes, I guess no one has been reading this book (or wants to share that they have) recently! I just finished, skipping most of the mystery parts. For the first time reading this though I did wonder why we didn't hear of not one 8 year old boy (friend of Derek's) or even girl (besides Becca and Charlotte) wanting to come watch? Unless (I hope they did) after the "Superbrat" incident, the kids at SES calmed down and began to treat Derek like Derek instead of a famous star. I know in the intro David Michael did not seem too interested in the movie so maybe it was no big deal. I remember Nicky was said to be Derek's closest Stoneybrook friend. I know he played soccer every day but it came across as odd that he had no contact, even by phone, with Derek. Still fail to get about (possibly) Watson's mansion not being air conditioned or why Sam wanted to sleep outside the set yet never (that we heard of) watched. I do like this book a million times better than Mystery Train, probably because even though it was a "mystery," I could easily see it as a regular BSC book and still wish it had been written as such. ETA: I finally Googled "Beetle Bailey," the comic Kristy read to DM and EM. I think I prefer the W of Oz or Lucy. (I'm not a fan of either really). No offense to any BB fans but from what I read of the comic, I probably would not have been too interested either, especially on a hot summer day. P.S.S. One "hidden gem," of sorts about DM. Kristy tells us DM is digging up a corner of the backyard where he is convinced treasure lies. Does he ever do this again?

I guess this confirms Sam is borderline creepy and Watson is truly a cheapass
