^ Okay. Thanks I need to reread that one I guess. It does sound a lot like Fashion Victim. The modeling did sound fun in this one, though, and I know I actually liked the dance stuff in Dance School Phantom so I suppose those are the differences. My favorite thing about this one is the subplot. ( again thinking about Watson's funeral for the cigars and Kristy having to dress up - that's what she gets for starting the smoke out ;D)

This book was just so-so for me. I like the mysteries better when I can't predict the ending after the 4th or so chapter. Also, the whole modeling thing in general didn't really interest me. All that aside, I really liked Cokie in this. She was so hilarious. And Watson's funeral for his cigars was cute.

I just read this one, and thought it was okay. I liked the modelling stuff. Am I crazy or did this book refer to the TV show episode "Stacey's Big Break"? Because she mentioned she modelled before, entered a contest at Bellairs and won. And that's what happened in "Stacey's Big Break".
Agree that the cover is horrible. Stacey looks awful. And I didn't even realize at first that that was supposed to be Claudia. She doesn't even look Asian.

That confused me, too. I stopped puzzling over it after a while. Lots of things in BSC mysteries do confuse me so I have to try to overlook it but sometimes it's hard ;D Agree also about the cover. I haven't looked at it for a while and will have to now ;D

I just re read this one, and the contest thing confused me too. The only contest I remembered was in the tv show.
I liked the subplot better then the actual mystery. Watson's cigar funeral made me crack up for some reason. I just pictured all of Kristy's family out in the yard dressed up around a cigar box. I liked the message it sent though.

I had forgotten about the subplot (I always do somehow) but definitely liked it better than the main plot, which I didn't hate or anything. I loved the message and the cigar funeral is a classic that makes me laugh every time I even think about it ;D

lindsey and buddy almost smoking a cigarette was such a shocking moment I agree! That shocked me as well, especially for a BSC book.

I just read this one and was bored with it - it was a clone of the Dance School Phantom book, and Stacey's smug sense of superiority really got on my nerves, because really, she's just as snotty as Cokie is. I actually like Cokie more than most of the baby-sitters as an adult, because she at least recognizes her behavior for what it is, unlike, say, Kristy, Stacey or Dawn. And the anti-smoking subplot was dumb, boring, politically correct claptrap. Mind you, I think smoking is gross and don't think I would ever do it, but having Buddy say "but when people in the movies do it, it looks cool!" and things like that...I nominate this subplot for having the worst, most contrived, unrealistic dialogue in the history of the series. Plus if I were Aunt Cecelia, I would not be amused by my nieces stalking me and spying on me to see if I was smoking. I'd be pissed off and telling them to mind their own business. And Watson's funeral for his cigars was a cute idea, but those must have cost a fortune. What a waste of money - he could have given them to a friend or something! (Yeah, I know, that would have just "promoted" smoking more or something )

^ ;D I loved the subplot in this one, actually, and was glad Watson buried the cigars. Agree they cost a lot but burying them was a significant message, I think. I was glad he did it. Of course, I'm very anti-smoking, especially because me and my mom are both really allergic to the smell of cigarette smoke and several of my family members have gotten smoking-related cancer. My grandpa actually had to have some of his tongue cut out when he was in his 30s because smoking (the drs. said that's definitely what it was from) gave him mouth cancer. Ouch!

^ I know. I guess it was a miracle that he survived, too. That's probably one of the main reasons my mom and aunts never smoked.
