I see what you mean now. I suppose I feel differently about the two words--something can be interesting (holding one's attention) but that doesn't necessarily make it entertaining, which I associate more with amusement...

Much earlier in the series someone had an aside that said it's good not to go alone to the first job with a new client.

I liked this one, I'm a cat person and I love Mallory so this was right up my alley. Enjoyed the Uncle Joe plot too.

I liked this book but I feel that the Uncle Joe subplot overshadowed the main mystery of the story, which I would have liked to hear more information on. Although this book had the "unfinished" feeling, I actually enjoyed that - leaves you guessing a bit. Sometimes I'm not a fan of the unfinished BSC endings. I like the cover art too!

Love how in this book Dawn gets shown up for being Ms Know-it-all about ghosts (I’m not a Dawn fan). Love how Mallory isn’t treated badly by the ghostwriters in this one - more positive Mallory books were needed! (I’m a Mal fan).

Why would you take an elderly person out of his comfort zone and make him stay with a family full of kids where's there's bound to be noise ? Now wonder Joe was the way he was ! Old people don't like change . Mallory should have been more patient with him. She should never wrk in an age care home .

Totally wrong in their part ! My mum is 70 and she LOVES spicy food. The spicier the better ! She adores mustard , and hot sauce etc

She looks like she's in the 1970s. The cat is the least scary thing in that attic. I like how all three of them are staring intensely in completely different directions.

I really enjoyed this one! The "mystery" wasn't that great, but I still liked it. I actually liked the subplot with Uncle Joe and how Mallory learned to see things from his point of view by the end. I think it was a good way to teach kids to be more compassionate toward the elderly and to understand how they might be feeling about things. It was the behavior of Mr. and Mrs. Pike that I didn't understand--why would you take someone with memory issues out of their familiar home? It's not like the Pike household is calm and quiet. And he didn't even have a proper bedroom to stay in. And they kids didn't understand what was going on with Uncle Joe. Seemed unfair to all of them. I did like how Uncle Joe softened up to the kids later in the story and started to feel like the guy they'd heard stories about for so long. Is this the only book that mentions him? Totally wrong in their part ! My mum is 70 and she LOVES spicy food. The spicier the better ! She adores mustard , and hot sauce etc So did uncle Joe.

Idk why, but I loved this one. Sometimes I get a little tired of the "we randomly need a regular sitter for x amount of time" plot device, but I can't deny that it works. And I like the Craine girls, they seem like sweet kids.
I lived the Uncle Joe subplot. It's cool to see more extended family in the series. I felt bad for him. I'm a germaphobe who strongly prefers quiet settings and I also hate boring food. So yeah, he's totally out of his element. Also, stories about Alzheimer's and dementia are really sad. But it was a nice story and I'm glad he eventually bonded with the Pike kids. Does he make a reappearance? I really liked him.
Why was Mrs. Pike cooking bland food? That makes no sense to me. I don't think the doctors said he had to be on a bland diet. It's like she just assumed and everyone was miserable as a result. Makes no sense at all.
The "ghost cat" plot was sort of weak I'll admit, but it kind of works for me? Rasputin's owner looking like Kennedy Graham is pretty cool actually. I'm okay with there not really being an explanation because I think the series likes to leave the more paranormal plots open to interpretation instead of having a solid conclusion.
Also, Dawn is a dork with her $5.99 ghost-hunting equipment and I love it. I realized that this aspect of her character is missing from California Diaries and that makes me a little sad.
It's so unfair that Mallory only got one mystery. I think Mystery Diary was great and while the actual mystery in this was sort of weak, the book is still very enjoyable. I think she's perfect for the mystery series, being a curious and smart person. She kind of reminds me of Velma and even sort of looks like her lol (if she never goes as Velma for Halloween it's a missed opportunity). Thoughts on this? Another case of Ann hating Mal?

One thing that irked me about this one. If the nursing home knew Uncle Joe was in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's Disease why did they let him stay with the Pikes? People with Alzheimer's don't like change to their routine. Plus it didn't seem right they left him home alone to fend for himself.
