^ Do you sneak those ingredients in the theater or are you talking about something else?

I like getting the gourmet popcorn with the chocolate on them. I don't get it often, so it's definitely a treat when I do.

I remember reading this book and I liked it. I specifically remember the end where they found Jake and they let him have all that candy to eat. This was the bsc mystery that got me hooked.

One comment that I don't think has been mentioned yet about MA and home ec, during the BSC emergency meeting on Thursday, MA was home frantically trying to get the hang of something called a "slip stitch." Stacey suprisingly replies to this news that she KNOWS how to do this. So why in the bsc universe even doesn't she go to MA's on her way home to help her or even call? Something I picked up in re-reading last night. I loved the store scene and would have enjoyed reading more memories of K, C, and MA as younger kids. I'd love to try that popcorn picnic. Not sure about the maple syrup though I am a big fan of the stuff, just sounds odd on popcorn but never know.

Aren't the Kuhn girls at Stacey's when she gets home? Maybe that accounts for her not having time to go to Mary Anne's. But yeah, there was always the phone. I've tried the maple syrup on popcorn before, thanks to this book It was too sweet for my taste.

This was one of my favorites of the mystery series, which overall I didn't care for. I am very glad Matt had the idea to look at the construction site before he and his group headed home and of course, very thankful they did find Jake. It was just very sad that if that had not happened Jake may very well not have been found until later. On the Matt note, did it annoy anyone else how in most descriptions of him as related to the Krushers it would state something like “Matt is one of our best hitters even though he’s deaf.” What does being deaf have to do with being a good baseball player? Almost implies that because he is deaf (or other deaf people) might automatically be thought of as not good at baseball. I’m not trying to make a big deal out of this, just wondering. "Humorous" note, on Page 65: Mr. Taylor is referred to as a "She" 2 more times in this paragraph.

I felt bad for Kristy since she was blaming herself and it wasn't her fault. I loved reading about the popcorn picnic. It made me want to eat some popcorn.

This is one of my favorite mysteries. I liked seeing people come together to help. Kristy keeps telling us she's not afraid to carry her own equipment, she's tough and tries never to let people see her cry, etc., but I think she's very "soft" in this book. She and Bart are really sweet together here.
One of the more memorable parts for me has always been when the police come to Claudia's house to question Kristy and she chokes on her Doritos and coughs until she's crying, lol. I was trying to remember what book that was in recently, thought it was a mystery.
There are a lot of junk food mentions in this one actually...Nannie's chocolate chip cookies, the Doritos, the candy at the convenience store, the bag of candy the store owner sends to Jake, the carrot cake Kristy eats at the Kuhns. I like the MA subplot, although I didn't like reading about Jello this time around, since that was all I could eat when I was sick a couple of weeks ago.

Man...I REALLY shouldn't have come to this thread! Now I want candy and Doritos and stuff, which is bad, because I'm giving up sweets for Lent. Oh...wait...Ash Wednesday isn't until tomorrow. Plus, Doritos aren't sweets. Back to the topic....yes, there was a lot of good junk food in this one. I also think this was one of the earliest mysteries I owned. It might have even been the second....

Something I always remember about this book is that it mentions Chunky bars. I haven't seen one of those in awhile. I love anything that has a chocolate and raisin combination...like Raisinettes...mmm.

It's funny because you would think Mary Anne would be the best at home-ec.

i think it's kind of creepy that MA's teacher is so strict with all the rules. and why does MA have a sewing project at the same time as a cooking project? it feels like it's the 1950s and we're priming girls for a life of cooking and cleaning and staying at home :[

I had home ec in junior high, and although we did a lot of the same things that Mary Anne had to do, our teacher wasn't strict at all. She knew it was the first time most of us were ever attempting sewing and cooking and she didn't expect perfection from anyone. And we only focused on one thing at a time. We might do cooking one week, sewing for the next couple of weeks, etc.

I never had home ec. Honestly, I could have benefited from some cooking and sewing knowledge...lol
