That Barbie book sounds awesome. And it's written by Suzanne Weyn, no less. I imagined Chuckles to be bigger than that. But that totally looks like a candy Claudia would have.

I just finished re-reading this one myself and think it's my favorite of the 4 SM's. Despite it's plot being very simple and (lol the infamous evil things to do list) unrealistically funny though, I saw it more as something that truly could have happened in real life as opposed to say the woman with the amnesia not being recognized sooner by a family member in SM 4. ITA that Lionel (different sort of name), should have been made the object of a crush or the person who had the crush on a BSC member. Lol to someone's comment on his linen pants outfit! Maybe it just seems odd to me that a 14 year old boy was that obsessed by attempting to morph into an older English? actor... Lionel also did indeed read more like a charge than someone older than the girls! Georgio, dark, creepy yet at the same time, at least in the beginning, he seemed more innocent of any evil intents--until almost reaching for the ax in the shed that was! Maybe Claudia had a glimmer of a prayer that her parents would allow her to take a plane ride to visit a 19 year old strange boy at college (and I assume bunk with him in his dorm room--that was never specified was it just let to the reader to probably not think of)? because 13 year old Stacey was always permitted to date 15/16 (his age was never stagnant I don't think) Ethan? As far as we know Mrs. McGill never met him and Mr. McGill only did so a while AFTER his daughter began dating him. Though lol Stacey was also complacently talking with her mother about trying to raise theatre money to treat Robert to a Broadway play! So I guess hopping a plane to a weekend fling with a guy 6 years older than yourself was the next logical thing for a bsc member to do? Such not a good message! Also and I know, I know, parents never have any involvement in their children's lives so neither the Engles nor Menders' would object to Claudia's "date" with Georgio at the carnival. They knew their respective ages but then so did the Tronos. Now, I'm wondering WHY I said this SM was a favorite? I loved that it was K/MA not MA/Dawn. Andrew was very cute in it. He sure writes not only legibly but very well for a 4 year old! The red boat being the treasure cheesy but somehow sweet anyway. Oh! That reminds me of the sleeping arrangements. Kristy and Andrew supposedly are sharing a room that has "one little" bed for Andrew and one I'm assuming bigger one for Kristy? So maybe a twin and a queen? What kind of mansion (or dwelling of any kind) has that type of arrangement? MA's room is across the way or possibly connected by a door like a suite of rooms. Speaking of Andrew, Karen, too, for that matter, I guess the Engles' fell into line with the regular BSC parents in turning their children over completely to them (BSC). They sure spent like no time with Andrew and Karen. Though neither did the Menders' with their brood and I thought the whole point was to find out yes as individuals but also as a family how they liked Reese? I know, getting worked up over BSC nothing. Yet I and lol all of us on here still love the books anyway. One inconsistency that I don't think has been mentioned in this thread concerns Mallory and Jessi back in Stoneybrook. Jessi and Mallory are hired to care for 15 charges, inlcuding Matt and Haley Braddock, between them for Celebrate America. 7 Pikes, 2 Braddocks, 3 Rodowsky's, plus, hey wait the Ghostie also messed up the kid count, supposed to be 17! Jenny and Andrea Prezzioso, along with their twin cousins! I'd assume Jessi would be asked to take care of Becca. Anyway my point is this: Not long after on a Friday afternoon to be exact, both girls are frantically calling clients to find out if "they (J and M) have ruined the BSC since no one has been calling them. Jessi calls the Braddock house and very quickly talks to Mrs. Braddock who informs her that the family is leaving right then on a 2 week camping trip. Fastest two weeks I ever read about for the very next morning, Matt and Haley "are back" to participate in the parade! Or did I misss something?

^You're right! I never even noticed that. Maybe Lionel was named after Lionel Barrymore, and he's attempting to live up to his namesake

I went back and double checked and sure enough the Braddock kids not only were on hand but supposedly Mrs. Braddock was scheduled to help Jessi's mother with a "make your own rag doll booth."
^ Lol, maybe. I never thought of that possibly being the reason for his unusual name. Lionel, Jill, Jason, and Martha, especially Lionel are an "unique" set of 4 sibling names. I guess there names could have been John, Elizabeth, Daniel, and? what was a second overused BSC female name?

^Grace!
I saw "The Stepfather" tonight and there were some parts that reminded me of this book...the characters search the bad guy's room when he's not at home and are a split second away from being caught, they print out a wanted list pic/sketch, and there's a big storm during the climax. As I added these things up I was like "that's totally Baby-sitters' Haunted House" haha.

haha, i really wanted to see that movie. is it good? this is definitely my favorite of the super mysteries. i reread it last night and it was still so creepy. the part about lydia was so weird and bizarre that i had to put it down until the morning, because i didn't want to read it at night :] one thing that really bothered me was the fact that lisa and seth were the ones who were going to pay for a baby sitter (and eventually that became driving across four states with the baby sitters, paying for the van to drive the baby sitters, etc) when they only had two of the six children. even if you leave lionel out, the menderses still had more children than lisa and seth. so why didn't they help pay? especially since they asked lisa and seth to leave their jobs and hometown for ten days, and act as free help.

When I first read this book, I thought Reese was a real town. Too bad it's not. I can't believe the Randolphs were stupid enough to leave a list around of their intentions. The things they wrote seemed like they could be remembered easily and didn't need to be written down. I loved the Logan chapter because of how Mallory freaked out. Mallory destroying the bread is one of my favorite scenes in the series.

haha, i really wanted to see that movie. is it good? Nah, I don't even think it's worth a rent I was looking through a book about old wives' tales/superstitions/folklore and read how black cats in the home were thought to protect fishermen gone away at sea. It reminded me of this book with Spooky the cat. If he was written in with that in mind, it's a nice little detail.

^ Considering how NOT into fact checking the BSC was, I highly doubt that Spooky was written with that intent. We can pretend, though!

Another Camp BSC type Karen book when Karen is yelling at Andrew about how he can't sit with all his sitters at one time or something like that and Claudia just says "Karen is so precocious." What about Andrew? :/ ITA that there was no reason for all 4 of them to go, really it should have been Claud and Kristy. That plan should have been made much sooner than the night before the trip, too! O/T of sorts but wouldn't it have made more sense if the Menderses had hired a sitter or helper that their kids knew and liked to help them settle in? Loved when Lionel said his piece about the "gaggle of sitters" and when Jason questioned why two of the four sitters weren't guys like him and Lionel. Good question. Oh and did it strike anyone else as odd that after Seth recruits Lisa to help in his workshop after his assistant is injured, two days later he's raring to go to Maine?

OH man oh man I agree about Karen. I was so annoyed when they kept saying "I love how her mind works etc". I liked that she didn't help find friends b/c who she would have found would have probably been annoying. Reading her chapter when she says she's knows what other people want even if they say otherwise made me want to just gag.
^Zoar I agree with your points there. If they wanted the family to fit in, find someone that lives in the town to sit.
I noticed a weird Jessi thing - in her chapter she says she is late to sit at the Mancusis??? Aren't those the dog people???
Otherwise, I really do like this book. It creeped me out to think that lady would pretend she couldn't talk and I got creeped out when they brought the hot cocoa in and made her taste it and Mr. Cooper said "oh you think of everything" - b/c I realized he must have known they were on to them and that for some reason was creepy to me.
I will agree with everyone else who thought the relationship with Giorgio/Claudia was creepy but realistically a 19 and 16 isn't too much of a difference. Shame on Claudia for not telling her real age!

They also several other pets, in addition to having three dogs. Maybe Jessi meant pet-sitting when she said that she was going to sit for them.

^I forgot about Jessi and the Mancusis; maybe that was another "Dodson" moment. (They had plants but no kids except for one book where supposedly they had kids).
Claudia lists her reasons for not telling Georgio her real age on page 87. Among them are something like "good detective never gives out information unless it is necessary." I understand she was infatuated. I "get" that she really was 13 and possibly in the beginnings of being in "luv" or at least in deep crush. She shouldn't have worried though that Georgio "would be mad at her if she told him her age." Not a good message.
I really do like this book though probably because of how appealing visiting Reese sounds.
Edited to add: I almost forgot to mention how Mrs. Prezzioso hires Mal to sit for Andrea, Jenny, plus 2 year old twin boys. I guess Dawn and Mal really did have "nerve" complaing over Mrs. Phillips kids!
