I remember Randall by I couldn't remember any other kid besides Laine. She wasn't really close to any of them was she?

First portrait in the series. I think it's a strong start. One minor problem with these is that there are obvious things that should be included (for Stacey, being diagnosed with diabetes and the three moves), but since they've already been covered in the series, they're omitted and filler is added instead. My personal headcanon is they these things were actually included in the assignment, just not put in the book, because it just doesn't make sense otherwise.
Overall, this one is good. I really like the ballroom dancing chapters. I loved the part about Stacey and Laine planning to rent an apartment, that 100% feels like something an 8 year old would dream of and be naive enough to think it's possible. It's very entertaining and kind of endearing. It's also fun to read about them ditching the classes. Mara was fun to read about as well, and the setting was a welcome change from the city (I'm not a city girl at all). It's a little sad that they didn't keep in touch, but it's realistic. Mara is a great one time character and very interesting. In a way, I can imagine myself enjoying living on an island like that (but also getting freaked out about storms). As a kid, I would have loved camping out, but would have also been a little afraid.
The Claudia chapter wasn't boring to me, but definitely felt like filler. There's also a major mistake here: Stacey titles this section "When I was Twelve." Um, no. You were 13 lol. My guess is that this was supposed to be about her getting diabetes (although I'm pretty sure she was 11) and moving to Stoneybrook and meeting Claudia (definitely 12), but that idea was scrapped and they decided on another but forgot to change the title. Either way, it bugs a bit.
I don't blame Claud for being sad over missing Stacey, but I just don't see how this belongs in Stacey's autobiography. It feels more like something that should be in Claud's instead.
Also, Stacey seems to really have a sweet tooth and I feel bad for her. There are a ton of mentions of her eating sweets in her early years, like ice cream and apricot rolls (I've never had these in my life, have any of you?). As a person with a major major sweet tooth, I'm totally terrified of getting diabetes. Sometimes Stacey books make me a little paranoid about this.
But yeah, I was kind of worried I'd be bored by this, but it was overall well-done, particularly the middle chapters.
