I thought this subject was distinct enough from the "Christmas food" discussion to merit it's own thread! Christmastime often involves lots of baking. What baking have you done so far or plan to do? So far in December I've made: Pumpkin Butterscotch Mini Muffins Spiced Apple Bars Candy Bar Bars Snickerdoodles Sugar Cookies Some of those were for holiday parties, giving out as Christmas presents, etc. My mom likes biscotti, and last year I baked her some Cantuccini (Tuscan Almond Biscotti) which she said she really liked. I'm going to try to bake her some biscotti again; I want to try a recipe for classic biscotti. And I'll probably be baking some more for some family get togethers, although I haven't decided yet what I want to make.

^ Mmmm. They all sound so delicious. Especially to someone who hasn't done any baking this season OR eaten any baking (as of yet). Also, this is slightly off-topic to this thread but I love your current BSC holiday banner, celaeno!

The only thing I've made are pretzel things: Pretzels with a hug melted on top and then put an M&M or sprinkles on it Pretzels with a rolo melted on top and then a pecan (tastes like a turle! yummm!) I was lazy in the baking department this year.

Thank you virgo Right after I wrote my above post, I talked to my mom on the phone and she mentioned that she baked some biscotti for herself! So now I don't know if I'm going to make any for her for Christmas.

So far I have made double chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, basic sugar cookies, homemade turtles (like you u4me! same exact thing!!! lol) and holly jollies - www.southernplate.com/2009/12/holly-jollies-christmas-candy-on-a-budget-in-a-hurry.htmlwith those I made seven different varieties - chocolate and pretzels, chocolate and peppermint, chocolate and rice krispies, chocolate with peanuts, white chocolate an cranberries, white chocolate and cocunut, and white chocolate and mint oreo with peppermint pieces in it... they all turned out delicious! I have about 450 treats to hand out - i just need to package them up and label them... and tomorrow I am making wedding cookies for our Christmas Eve party - I make about 4 dozen every year...they are basically flour, powdered sugar, butter, and chopped pecans dipped in powdered sugar. If any one wants the recipe let me know - I have made them for years and years. They are delicious!

All of that sounds amazing, Sarish!!
My mom makes those wedding cookies and they've always been my favorite! They're sooo good. They have to be homemade too. The ones from the store are always hard and they crumble.

I made my special chocolate chip cookies that include hazelnut butter and a vanilla bean. My sister's kids devour them every year! I also made a key lime pie and "fast" cinnamon rolls. no yeast therefore no rising time. They were SO good!

I didn't do much baking, either. At home a few weeks ago I baked cupcakes for a potluck. They were devil's food cupcakes from a mix, but I made the icing from scratch, cream cheese chocolate mint with a candy cane on top. When I was at my parents' house, I baked red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing, but they were also from a mix and they had pre-made icing. They were still a total pain in the butt, though, because they were mini cupcakes, so I made 72 of them and it was hard spooning the batter into all those tiny little cups. My mom and I also used this Wilton Peppermint Bark Kit to make candy for my cousin's kids -- you melt the little candies in the microwave and pour them into the snowflake molds in layers, and then when it cools you have snowflake-shaped candy.

This is the first year I actually did baking on my own and I made three different kinds of cookies. One was an outmeal krispy cookie, a mint chocolate brownie and no bakes. They all turned out pretty good and I had a lot of fun! A lot of these cookies sound good.

I haven't done a lot of baking yet, but last weekend I got together with a group of 9 others and between us we made about 20 pounds of candy. I also made some jalapeno cheese bread for a work potluck we had this week.
