^ Me neither, mainly because the mysteries that I COULD "stumble" upon would put me in so much danger.

This book was a fine mix of having Kristy be the narrator & protagonist but letting all the sitters involved in trying to solve the mystery and also did pretty well in having several suspects all seem pretty suspicious. Agreed that there was some good creepiness but it also felt cheap that at the end Kristy abruptly declares that this mystery was too dangerous, more than the others, so much so that the club will no longer look into mysteries or at least won't for a while.

I didn't remember this one at all.
(My review also 100% spoils the mystery)
Now I'm wondering why. It's actually a pretty exciting mystery. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I totally get why they decided to stop playing detective after this one (I do think the book could have used another chapter). It felt more dangerous from the beginning with the gunshot. Tbh, I think the BSC members are crazy for getting involved after that. The scuffle with Golem at the end was actually pretty d**n scary honestly, and Cary actually got hurt. And Sergeant Johnson got arrested in the process. Yeah, I get why they stopped.
I kind of like the chapter 2 in this one. There's a subtle finality to it, as Kristy gives an example of her favorite mystery from each sitter (I love that Mary Anne's was the Music Box Secret! That might be my favorite, idk. I do love Mallory and the Ghost Cat as well). Fun fact: I guess Jessi's official mystery sucked so much that Kristy used an example from the main series instead (she used Jessi and the Dance School Phantom). I guess no one remembers what really happened in Jewel Thieves, because Kristy tells Golem that they caught jewel thieves in one mystery, but that's not what happened at all. It ended up being a non-mystery. I also like that the subplot involves most of the kids they sit for (although it mainly focuses on Charlotte), so it's like they all can get a part in the last mystery subplot.
I felt secondhand... awkwardness with Sergeant Johnson's arrest? Idk if that's the right word. I just felt really bad for both him and the BSC, and I knew he couldn't be guilty. I did guess Golem early on, although I wasn't sure. I did kind of like Golem throughout the book; he was actually pretty entertaining to read about for some reason. I think his trickery might have been part of the reason the BSC decided to put an end to mysteries, as they totally believed him and were double crossed by him.
Also, where tf are their parents?! Did Watson and Elizabeth not notice that 3 of their kids came home in a police car?! Janine didn't tell Mr. and Mrs. Kishi that a police officer was there to visit Claudia? Their parents weren't aware that they were trapped in a criminal's house? Come on now XD.
Cary also does to a BSC meeting. Kind of weird, but I get it in the context. I'm realizing I like Kristy a bit more in the mysteries. She is less business-oriented since she's focused on something else (for once).
Also, where is this forest? It seems to be in or near Kristy's neighborhood, since she, DM, and Karen can walk there. The other BSC members and Cary can also bike there (and it doesn't seem too far from the police station either. Is Stoneybrook just very tiny or is this a logistics mistake?) They all must be in pretty good shape, because none of them seem exhausted from all this biking. I know that Kristy lives about 3 miles from Claud's. 3 miles isn't a hard bike ride, but it's not trivial either. I used to bike 4ish miles to college and I'd be tired afterwards. If you bike against the wind, it can be pretty tough. Stoneybrook must be pretty favorable for biking conditions. Idk. I might just be out of it, but the logistics in this one bother me XD. I found myself re reading it because I was having trouble believing they were easily bouncing around the Brook on bikes.
Also surprised that the forest isn't talked about more often. If I lived near an actual forest, I'd go there all the time.
I'm surprised by how much I like this one. I think it gets a 7.5 as well. I'm thinking an 8, but something is stopping me from ranking it that high (I might've ranked some of them too high. I started this trend too late in the series). It's never boring.

^ I think book 42 is mentioned because it was originally supposed to be part of the mystery series, maybe the ghostie saw the original notes (at least according to the wiki it's supposed to be).
This was one of my favorite mysteries growing up, I agree with 8 star review!

There must be two threads for this book because I know I've commented on it before. It's a really great mystery to wrap up the series. I appreciate how serious the final chapters are.

Yeah I expected to be underwhelmed or disappointed (especially since I didn't remember it), but was shocked at how good and suspenseful it was. And how high the stakes were.
How did I not remember Sergeant Johnson getting arrested?!
