^ Could I assume you didn't really like the book?

It was okay but I think the mystery was pretty boring. Ohhh, some moved makeup and room that was different-messy-than-usual. Shock! Horror!

Lol, Virgo, how true. I agree this one was very disappointing. I'm just thinking it would have been cool had each of the Sitters had some sort of active mystery. This one with Claudia should have directly involved her family somehow or at least her neighbors the Goldmans. Kristy and the Missing Child, would have made an awesome super special or longer book. Mal/Stacey/Dawn could have joined together in linking Jared Mullray with Sophie. You get the idea.

I know the makeup and hair was moved, but maybe money should have been stolen and Janine would have been going through that and another club member, maybe Stacey, should have acted weird around Claudia or had money issues.

We know Stacey did mention embezelling some club funds (in jest) in at least one of the books and since she wanted a diamond ring so desperately, well, who knows what she might have done to get it!

When did Stacey mention that she embezelled club funds?

I think it was in Stacey and the Mystery Money or maybe Mystery at the Mall, I'll have to check when she said how much she wanted a jacket at the mall and that maybe she'd help herself to the treasury. It was meant in fun and not something she intended to do.

Zoar, I think it was Mystery at the Mall. Claudia or someone says something like "you better not, unless you steal some more to get me (dibble clothing/accessory)".
Barely related, but I hate Stacey and the Missing Ring because diamonds are the best gems to fake! Sure, we'd have no story if anyone suggested Stacey just buy a CZ ring for $25, but it's such an obvious solution! I wore CZ studs from Claire's (that one week's BSC dues could have paid for) all through high school and even people who knew jewelry thought they were real.

Thanks, Lila, and yay you were right. But first: On Page 19 of Stacey and the Mystery at the Mall, Stacey tells us that "maybe someday I'll (Stacey) invest some of it (BSC treasury money, and surprise everybody by making a killing on the stock market! Or maybe not. Kristy would have a fit."
Also on Page 19 and 20 of Abby And the Notorious Neighbor, Stacey is collecting dues.
Stacey passed the envelope around."There's almost enough in here for this adorable leather jacket I saw at the mall yesterday," she said. "You guys wouldn't mind if I did a little embezzeling, would you?"
We cracked up. Stacey would never run off with the club's money. But if she did, I can just imagine her heading straight to Washington Mall. Stacey lives for fashion.
Stacey and the Missing Ring was another "mystery" that had so much potential but fell flat. I still don't understand why, if Mrs. Gardella truly thought Stacey was a thief, she would want her to come back. Assuming Stacey did steal the ring, wouldn't bringing a friend along, only help with her future heists?

Welcome, I hope you enjoy it. I'm not a fan of "Unsolved Mystery" type of shows but this story, for whatever reason, was just funny and enjoyable. I think part of it was because Abby seemed less like "Abby" (dominating, joking, etc) in it and more like a regular young 13 year old kid. Abby's humor that was featured was actually well written and funny. I think one of the best parts was when she begged Sgt. Johnson not to "hang up on her." His reply was he had no intention of doing so but that he was busy. Later when she worries about Kristy meeting up with Otto Finch. I wonder what Mrs. Stevenson (if she was ever told) thought of the whole thing but it's a book for a cheer up read on maybe a gloomy day.

I just started reading this one and I love this intro....it made me laugh so hard!
"Other times it's a series of paintings, like the ones I did of junk food. Yes, junk food. That's one of my other loves. I could eat Twinkies and Doritos all day long. I think my paintings really showed how much I love the stuff, too, because the objects in the paintings -- a Chunky bar, a pack of Lifesavers -- look beautiful. They're kind of like portraits. Portraits of loved ones.
Pretty silly, right? Oh well, maybe you have to see them to understand. Anyway, I do love art. And junk food...."
Claudia is so nuts!

Haha, I've always gotten a kick out of that "portraits of loved ones" line.

I found it so weird that Claudia didn't just say - Yo Janine I know you have a boyfriend! I mean it was so lame for her to tell her parents. How about coming right out and asking??? I guess that doesn't ever happen in BSC land....where would the mysteries be?
I didn't like when they were all laughing about Janine and she poked her head in. I always liked Janine so I feel like they are always picking on her!

^ apparently the idea that janine had a boyfriend was so unbelieveable that claudia didn't think she was meeting up with a boyfriend -- she honestly thought janine was in trouble. but i do agree that the girls are really mean to janine sometimes. everyone is so quick to dismiss her, even the parents. it's like they don't realize that janine exists outside of her schoolwork.
