I just read it, and I liked this one a lot.
What I thought was weird was when the Dewitt kids asked Mrs. Dewitt if trick-or-treating was back on after the robber had been caught, Mrs. Dewitt seemed to defer to Dawn for the decision-making. Dawn gestured sure, and Mrs. Dewitt said yes.
I just loved, loved, loved how Marnie was the one that solved Barretts-Dewitt problem of finding an affordable house and one that was still in Stoneybrooke, by pointing to a house that they didn't even consider. Everybody followed, fell in love with it, and problem solved.
And does anybody else know what this outfit is supposed to look like: housedress with tacky daffodil print, clunky brown shoes, turquoise cat-eye glasses, yellow cardigan?
And I think that this was a great opportunity for Ann to show us how Jill and Maggie are really like, and more so of Sunny, but she didn't. It was just way too much Dawn, I felt.
Oh, and about the tour leading up to the unveiling of their new house, why did they need to bring Jessi along? Couldn't they take care of that bunch by themselves. I mean, if they are going to join the families, then they better get used to being able to.

Dawn gestured sure, and Mrs. Dewitt said yes. I was going to say that it's not that weird when you consider that Mrs. DeWitt has never been very good at acting like an adult, but then I realized that it's the Mrs. DeWitt in California who said that, and that Mrs. Barrett and Franklin haven't even gotten married yet at this point. So yeah, it's weird.

I think it's funny that Dawn feels Carol, at 32, 33ish, should be listening to people like Frank Sinatra, not "young" music. But judging from earlier books, Dawn's a 13 year old fifties music fan.

I like rereading the mysteries because I don't do it very often so I tend to forget important plot points, like who did it.
I thought it was interesting that the culprit was not who Dawn it was originally.
I agree about Maggie and Jill though, I never feel like we get to know Jill at all. Then she is written out of the CD books.

What bothered me was that was that none of the parents of Palo City can even be bothered to take their own kids trick-or-treating. No, they hire 13 year olds to do it. So apparently, uninvolved parents aren't just a Stonybrook thing.

^ That always bothered me, too. But it is another case of me having to overlook parents not spending time with their kids (which is one of the things that bugs me most) by reminding myself that if they spent more time with them in the BSC books, more of the plots wouldn't be able to happen. I guess the BSC plots almost kind of need uninvolved parents (if this makes any sense). I haven't read this book for a while but remember thinking the mystery was actually pretty good. I always love books that take place around Halloween, anyway, and I know it is one of my favorite mystery covers.

I liked this mystery, especially since it took place around Halloween. I usually don't like the books that take place out in California that much but this one I really enjoyed.
I also completely forgot about the hold up part of this book so it was an interesting surprise!

I'm a fan of this book. I really like how the culprit had a motive that seemed plausible. It was actually sad, and I felt sorry for her. That doesn't happen too often with BSC criminals! Timmy was a sweet kid, and I bet his costume was really cute. Although I still don't believe that he got it for only $3. All in all, a really good mystery. The hold up was exciting (and scary, especially when you add in the fact that he was wearing a clown mask *shudders*). And I agree with aln, it's one of my favourite mystery covers.

I really like this one too. I like any book dealing with Halloween Me, too! Some of my favorite mysteries take place during Halloween: this one and "Stacey & the Haunted Masquerade" for example. But then, I've always loved Halloween anyway.

^ Me too with loving all Halloween books, actually all holiday books. Valentine's day ones are other ones that I really like with Stacey and the Stolen Hearts being one of my favorites. I probably wouldn't have liked this one, though, as much if it didn't take place around Halloween. It just gave it a more "spooky" feeling and I love reading about trick or treating and kids dressing up, etc.

Just quickly reread and liked it even better than usual. I kind of like how Dawn "solves" the mystery wrong at first. There is always a bit of suspense/excitement for me in the part where she thinks she's figured it out and goes to Mrs. Dewitt for help. I really feel for Dawn with how traumatic it must have been to witness the robbery. I never realized just how much something like that could bother you until last year when my dad had a scary freak experience of being attacked. Watching the police take someone down with a taser gun as you stand in your bedroom watching out the window really changes your perspective on things like this.... Of course, my favorite thing about this book is the Halloween stuff. The kids sound so cute. I also liked (surprised myself) the Barrett-Dewitt chapters okay this time and thought it was adorable that Marnie found their house. Was Timmy ever in another book? I thought he sounded like a pretty good kid.

I just finished rereading this, and one thing that bothered me most this time around is that the WLKC never suspected the robber to be a woman. In every single other friggin' book, they always say something like, "He.." "...or she--you know, the robber could be a woman," but not this one. grr!
