Read this one today for Valentine's Day and really enjoyed it - a nice change from some of the far fetched mysteries because it was actually pretty plausible. Brought back memories for me of selling Valentine's grams when I was in 6th grade. I enjoyed reading about the girls' spying and found some of Stacey's narration particularly funny. Just realized a lot of her books are pretty funny. Also liked the subplot with the Hobart boys' crushes - they are so cute! Noticed some foreshadowing to Stacey's Ex-Boyfriend with the stuff about her and Robert. I actually disliked him less in this book than usual. Speaking of characters I despise, Cary really creeped me out how he was sitting in the basement because he "needed solitude." I swear he is going to grow up to be a serial killer If there is a thread for this book already, sorry for reposting. I'm just so glad I got the book off e-bay in the lot I won in time for Valentine's Day

Oh, tell me about it...I don't dislike Cary, but that part was over the top. He and the janitor had an "arrangement". omg.

Makes me wonder what Cary has on poor Mr. Halprin.

Stacey also looks cute on the cover in this one.

I thought the same thing. And I like the description of the outfit she wears on Valentine's Day. Usually, I don't pay attention to the clothes but that one caught my attention - much better than some of Claudia's "creations".

Stacey looked cute and more her age on this cover in my opinion.

I thought the "new" cover art on the later mysteries was kind of odd myself.

I like the cover art on the last four mysteries, actually.

This is the only mystery besides Mallory and the Ghost Cat that I really enjoyed. It's a reasonable mystery for middle schoolers to be tackling, and the perpetrator and his motivation seemed pretty realistic. I actually liked Cary a lot in this book, and really felt sorry for Alan.

^ What happened to Alan in this one? Was this where he wrote a valentine to the girl and got rejected or something? I think a lot of Alan's joking around is a way of him putting up defenses to getting hurt. I love this mystery! It always reminds me of when I sold Valentine grams when I was in 6th grade. Unfortunately, we didn't have a mystery to make it interesting. ;D

Apparently a bunch of the kids had a plot to write fake Valentine-grams to him.

^ That is really mean. Poor Alan. No wonder he always thinks he has to be a comedian when kids treat him like that.

He found out that the girl whom he had sent a valentine gram to had sent one as a joke to him, as he overheard them talking about it. Poor Alan
