After reading books such as "Dawn and the Halloween Mystery," and "Mallory Pike, #1 Fan," this one was really a nice surprise. I still don't much care about all the plant stuff and roll my eyes that Kristy never thought to ask Watson for help regarding Mrs. Dodson's plants. However, the "feel" of the majority of the book was from Stoneybrook days of old. The girls were banded together to work on a project at home instead of catching some criminal or off on some far away vacation. Plus, unlike some of the mostly Stoneybrook books there was no fighting. I laughed when Kristy said on page 54 that she wouldn't "wear Gautlier's clothes if she had three million dollars" and the same went for jewels from Tiffany's. ITA. Kristy and I have the same outlook (minus turtlenecks which I can't stand) on clothes. Mildred Abbott sounded like an interesting character, too. If she had stayed around perhaps she might have helped us to learn more about Stoneybrook and its past.

When Jessi said she noticed Mrs. Dodson's plants were drooping as she took care of them, Kristy legit panicked that Mrs. Dodson would tell everyone in Stoneybrook that the BSC were plant-killers and it would ruin their reputation. Chill out, Kristy.
This book had lots of great outfit descriptions! When Kristy dressed up to meet Mrs. Abbott, she mentioned she had to wear her outfit to school. I'm sure everyone was shocked to see Kristy in a skirt and pantyhose!
I thought the plant subplot was boring too, even though the arboretum sounded nice. I was a little annoyed that the girls decided to keep the "Squirelot is the arboretum" a secret from the woman in charge because "We want to surprise her!" and ended up creating a bigger mess at the arboretum. So many of these mysteries could be solved if they just told the adults!

I just read this one having remembered nothing about it. Now I think that this one of my favorite mysteries!
The Mrs. Dodson and her plants cracked me up a little. Kristy was just being dramatic I swear. I saw some comments asking if this was the same Mrs. Dodson from book 3 and if it is where's her kids? Honestly I think it's the same person. She said she was taking her family to Florida and I assume that including her children.
Mr. Ramsey not going in. Like I know Jessi feels embarrassed by her parents, but come on. What if nobody was in there? Then they'd be stuck waiting!
The love story with Christina and Henry was very romantic.
I like that Kristy does acknowledge that she probably isn't related to Christina but felt connected to the mystery. However, I wish they followed up on the Scott Thomas connection! Like for all we know Kristy could be related her. He couldn't have gone that far, maybe he was in Lawrenceville or Howard Township or something, a lot of people did not go far in those days. It would be cool to get to know some of the family genealogy for her. I mean we know she has Patrick, her dad's brother and his daughter Robin, and a (supposed) living grandmother. We know Abby's extended family, would have been cool to see some of the others. Maybe since I've done my family tree, this is more interesting to me.
This book just makes me want to learn about old historic Stoneybrook, more along the lines of Mallory and the Mystery Diary or Dawn's secret passage.

I like when they learn about the town's past. Kristy does acknowledge she probably isn't related to Christina but it was still funny how she kept getting dollar signs in her eyes. Like when she remembered her father talking about a great-great-aunt that never married and Christina had a niece who never married. Then all the sitters talking about what they'd buy with the money.

^ I wonder if Kristy really does have a great great aunt that never married or if she was just making that up. This is why I just wish they followed up with Scott Thomas now lol.

Yeah, we didn't hear much from her dad's side of the family besides her cousin Robin. Kristy willingly wears a dress and skirt in this book. Two times! Is that a record?

I know at the beginning of the series she wore skirts to school, does that count?

I hope this is OK to make a second post, but I just randomly thought of something. Why on earth did Kristy never call her uncle Ray or her grandmother (if she hasn’t died yet) annd ask if she could be potentially related to Christina? Like I know she felt connected to the mystery and wanted to see it solved, regardless, but come on if you’re really curious to know if you’re related, you just called and asked unless they had no clue either.

Maybe she was embarrassed? Like she keeps telling herself "Yeah, we probably aren't related" whenever she starts dreaming of the money

^ That's a good point. It just would have been cool to think they were really related.

I haven't read this book in years so I don't remember the details. But Kristy never has any shame and I wouldn't expect her to be embarrassed about anything, haha. She must not have thought of it.
