I was surfing on the internet and came across an article about Ann's latest book called "Rain Reign". I read the article and I thought it was interesting. I'd definitely read the book!

The subject doesn't really interest me and I'm not really into sad animal stories, but I'd be interested in seeing how Ann's handling of autism has changed.

Thanks for sharing! I will probably read it and I think this would be a good book to buy to add to a classroom.

Looks okay to read. I probably rented it from the library. When it comes out.

I read "Rain Reign" in October and it really hit home and touched my heart. I am on the Autistic spectrum myself but wasn't diagnosed until well into adulthood because back in the early 1990s, it was thought you'd have to nonverbal or if verbal, savant-like to be Autistic. Everyone just thought I was odd and immature but smart and bookish (I read constantly, checking out the maximum number of books every week at the library and got good grades). I was in regular mainstream classes but being bullied a lot by my peers for being "weird" so I could so relate to Rose and how her classmates treat her. I truly empathized with Rose the entire book (I hate the notion that people with Autism cannot have empathy or are selfish). I felt so terrible about the way Rose's father was treating her and literally cried at the end (don't want to give away too many spoilers in case anyone wants to read it. but it is bittersweet; I will just tell you that the dog does NOT die though). I can see Ann M Martin's growth and versatility as an author as she was able to write light hearted "fun" books like the BSC and such a deep, moving, bittersweet, yet still-appropriate-for tweens serious book such as this one. It was my discovery of "Rain Reign" that got me re-obsessed with the BSC and on this message board in the first place.

As someone also on the spectrum I hate the assumptions that go with our diagnosis.
