Another unsolved mystery, I suppose- Cary Retlin's past.
I've always thought they didn't know the FF series would fail so badly. The way Cary Retlin featured so heavily in at least two of them and appeared in a few more out of the twelve books really makes me think they intended to explore his character further, possibly through a relationship with one of the BSC members. I could never decide which one they were hinting most heavily at though- MA or Kristy.
At any rate, I'm sad that we never got to learn more about him. He was one of the more interesting characters in the BSC world.

If they have, I'd love to read it. I wonder why Cary & his brothers were so hush-hush about leaving there?

^ Maybe he made his brothers to keep up with his act? Like they were all in on his plan to keep his past shady. I wonder if Kristy ever bothered to interview his parents for that paper.

I just reread Baby-sitters' Christmas Chiller and I realized that the police assume someone snatched Lisa's purse, but since she couldn't remember anything, they never found out who. So around Christmastime, someone steals the purse of a woman who is eight months pregnant and, whether by purposely attacking her or accidentally knocking her over, causes her to hit her head hard enough to cause a concussion and amnesia. It could have been somebody else from the train, or it could have been somebody who lives in Stoneybrook, but they never got caught. Creepy. And although it's the most likely explanation, nobody even knows for certain that she was mugged -- but if she hit her head and lost her purse some other way, it's still an unsolved mystery.
