Yes. Claudia's inferiority complex would be a lot less severe if Janine wasn't a genius.
What if Claudia's parents found out about her junk food and Nancy Drew books?

Great idea for a thread!
I honestly don't think Claudia's parents would have cared significantly. Maybe it would have made them tougher on her about school, but we all saw what happened in the Portrait book!
What if Kristy's family had never moved to Bradford Court in the first place? How would Claudia, Mary Anne and the other members lives been affected? Sorry that was a big one!

Claudia probably would never have befriended Kristy and Mary Anne, I think, which is sad to think about!

What if Claudia, Dawn, Jeff, Haley, Becca and Jamie never got rescued from that island?

(or if the series only got 4 books as was originally planned - there mighnt't be any of this fandom at all!) I've thought about this. I love the first four books (at least Mary Anne Saves the Day and especially Kristy's Great Idea). We mock most of the series on this board but I think those books are genuinely good. If only the first four books had been written I think The Babysitters Club wouldn't be as famous but it would be a lot more highly regarded. I've also been thinking more about the "what if Mary Ann's mother hadn't died?" post I made awhile ago. I think it brings to mind the nature vs. nurture debate. Would Mary Anne have had a different personality? I think a lot of her shyness at the beginning was due to her father's awkward parenting, at least at the beginning. I think if Alma hadn't died she would have done more of the hands on parenting and Richard would have had a bit more of a distant role. I also think Mary Anne would have had younger siblings which would have affected her personality too. What do you think?

What if Logan never moved to Stoneybrook?

Mary Anne probably wouldn't have had a boyfriend until she was quite a bit older. I don't remember Mary Anne ever liking someone before Logan. She probably would have been the last one in the group to get a boyfriend and, if she were anything like me, she probably would have had some insecurities about it.
There also wouldn't be quite as much Cokie drama. The girls would still hate Cokie, but their feud was largely based on their competition for Logan. The hatred probably would have fizzled out as soon as Cokie got bored and moved on.

What if Kristy's dad was in the picture to begin with and they were a happy family and there would never have been Watson or Karen, for example? That would have been too dull and conventional.

What if Stacey never returned to the BSC after her fling with hanging with the Bad Girls? That would have been AWFUL! I'm glad Ann didn't waste a good character that way.

I don't know about last but probably after Kristy and Dawn and especially Stacey and she would feel a little jealous of them about it. She would probably grow close to Pete and eventually go out with him around the alternate-70s books.

What if Claudia's parents found out about her junk food and Nancy Drew books? I suspect her parents already sort of knew, but figured as long as Claudia was maintaining mostly decent grades and was eating nutritional dinners, it wasn't worth doing battle with her over. Like Mary Anne's dad, Claudia's parents loosened up some as the series went on and the parents learned to pick their battles.

I don't think Mary Anne's basic personality would have been all that different, but I do think Mary Anne would have had more confidence, especially if she had younger siblings. The books do indicate that Alma also was shy, quiet and introverted like Mary Anne, so the traits of shyness, introversion and high sensitivity are basically inherited.

What if Mary Anne quit the club after the events of Mary Anne's Makeover?

Kristy or Dawn would do a bad job doing the secretary's tasks. Sharon would push the sisters to make up and then Dawn would convince the others they had been unfair, they should let Mary Anne back in.

What if Mary Anne quit the club after the events of Mary Anne's Makeover? That would have been awful. Anyway, Mary Anne is no quitter, especially over something so trivial as a bit of teasing.
