;D LMAO! I wish there were more... expressive... emoticons on this board, if you know what I mean. For some reason, this particular paragraph completely cracked me up.
Anything involving the Krushers bores me, TBH. But I didn't mind this one too much actually. Better than the day-camp subplot. Yawn.

I don't know why I didn't like this book more. I really enjoy reading about Sea City (it seems like such a great place) but most of the plots were just boring. I agree that Toby's interest in Mallory was weird. However, did anybody notice that in Mary Anne and Too Many Boys, the cute guy from the ice cream parlour was also interested her? I always wondered if there was something about Sea City that made Mallory attractive to boys. BTW, that boy was twelve and working at an ice cream place? Did his parents own it?

Apparently child labor is perfectly acceptable in BSCland.

In fact, it's encouraged.

I thought that was weird too. But then, Logan worked at the Rosebud Cafe when he was only 13. Where I live, you have to be 15 to have a job.

^ I thought that was rough. Maybe she didn't want Stacey just hanging out with friends all day during summer vacation, but hello... she was 13. Isn't that what kids do?

Agreed. Did Mrs. McGill seriously think anyone would hire her? I don't understand why she just didn't tell Stacey in the first place, "Bellair's is opening a day care center. I'll get you an interview." That would have made a lot more sense than scoping out the classifieds.

^And placing an ad that said, like, "Pretty 13-year-old willing to do anything. Wages negotiable" or whatever.

^^that reminds me of an episode of "The Golden Girls" whenever Dorothy asked Rose to place her ad in the want ads saying she'd do anything, no job too big or small, for $8. Rose ended up putting it in the personals.

I just started re-reading this book for the first time in awhile, and I was wondering: what the heck are the freaking Barretts doing in Sea City anyway?? It was never explained at the beginning of the book. Does Mrs. Barrett feel SO close to the Pikes that she feels the need to follow them on their vacation? I loved Stacey's description of the house the Barretts rented and how it was tiny and looked like it was built on the side yard of the Pikes' house. Also.. Logan.. wtf. Why was he invited? I haven't gotten to his part yet so maybe an explanation is forthcoming and I've just forgotten about it...but it is REALLY weird to me that he's there! I'm only a few chapters in, but I'm reminded of why this was always one of my favorite books. I LOVED it as a kid and so far it's still awesome. I love all the little Sea City landmarks like Crabs for Grabs, the tushie billboard that is no longer there, the ferris wheel, Burger Garden, etc.

I always liked Sea city as well. It sort of reminds me of where I used to go on vacation as a kid.
