I actually liked this SS a lot. It was fun to read and they seemed like their age in a lot of places here. Like the fights that went on between the girls. They were so immature and silly but they are pre-teens. And where Mary Anne is concerned...I don't think it's that weird that she had such intense feelings for Logan. I think everything at that age is intensified. And it also makes sense that some of the other girls think they're in love with each crush so often. It's a weird age to be. lol.
Anyway, I liked the ambiance of this story and I actually enjoyed the Conway Cove kids. Though it was a bit odd that Mallory thought it'd be a good idea for them to go to the dance. Other than that, I liked all the other scenes with the kids.
Kristy/Mary Ann shared a sweet moment and I liked that Kristy realized that she gets too competitive. I'm glad her team lost, she needed to learn some humility. And I think she did, considering how guilty she felt about the whole thing with Jay and that she actually cried about it.
I thought it was interesting to hear Claudia talking about Will in this SS. It's weird that she never mentioned him in the RS though, do the girls only remember their vacation "loves" when they're on vacation again? lol
The biggest downside to the book for me was the "ghost story" stuff. This is the second book in a row that contained this kind of thing. I thought Dawn was the only one who was really into that stuff? When did it start freaking the other girls out?

This book always feels like there's a chapter missing with Stacey going from meeting Pierre at the beginning, and then aside from a few references in other chapters, she doesn't return until it's the dance and they're saying goodbye. Not that we need another Stacey-In-Luv plot, but then why even include it in the first place?
Mary Anne drove me up a wall in this one, both with her pining about Logan and reacting to Dawn by thinking she's being a baby, considering how frequently she's on the brink of breaking down.
As implausible as a mandatory overnight school trip that the destination magically always mostly pays for is, this is one of my higher ranked Super Specials. I love the Winter War and seeing more interactions between the BSC and other kids in their school.

This book was unusually difficult to get through! I was so bored, but on reflection I do like the ambience of a winter ski lodge. I thought the bizarre and inexplicable fat-shaming of Ethel at the very end was totally unnecessary, and unusual from a Mary Anne chapter - noting that the cruel song had not stopped Ethel from eating 3 candy bars on the trip home.
Did anyone else find it extremely creepy that Guy sent Claudia snail mail after her return to Stoneybrook? Normal adult males (whether married and with kids or otherwise) would not do that.
Mary Anne was completely insufferable but I did think that kind of one-track-mind pining is very realistic at that age.

I wonder why there were no parent chaperones like there always are on TV. Claudia's family liked to ski. It would have been funny to see her dad there making her life miserable.

Curtis was mentioned a lot. I didn't get the point of having him yell "it's the Leicester Lodge ghost!" when the lights go off during scary story night, because um why is he trying to scare the children? I reread this book last night and thought the same thing. Why is an adult yelling to a room full of kids that a ghost caused the power failure? The interviews Mary Anne did with longtime lodge employees certainly date this book. One of them (Marie, who is supposed to be around 75 years old) mentions having worked there since 1930, and that the Georges bought the lodge in 1963. It stood out to me because specific years/current events were generally not mentioned in the BSC-verse.
