Actually, they didn't translate that book. They stopped translating Super Specials after this one. So we never got a "Amsterdam, Amsterdam!" Super Special, I guess they stopped before it really would stop making any sense. (I think someone wrote a "Amsterdam, Amsterdam!" fanfic, though) Dawn and Mary Anne went to London in Dawn's family feud, not Boston, and they could choose between London and Paris. Before I found out they went to Boston in the original one I was always really impressed by how their parents could just afford to fly to London or Paris from the US. I think that in most of the other tranlations, like the French ones, they kept the original locations for everything. I wish they would have done it in our series too, because it just gets so weird sometimes.

Yeah, the Amsterdam, Amsterdam! fanfic is hilarious. And that's so cool how they went to London instead of Boston! Are there any other cool places? Where did they go in the first SS (with the cruise ship and Florida etc)? What about Summer Vacation and Winter Vacation?

I think that's about all the places they changed. They did go to Florida and the Bahama's in the firs SS, just like in the original one. In Summer vacation, they just go to "some camp somewhere" and Winter vacation wasn't translated (for some reason they translated SS 1, 2, 4 and 5). Oh, but Claudia goes to Switserland with her family every summer. I don't know where they go in the original series...

I think they go to Vermont, but I'm not sure why I think that or where I would've read it. Anyone help?

Just finished this one...
How come Claudia didn't hook up with Terry again in Here Come the Bridesmaids? I guess even "forever" can't compete with the eternity that is Stoneybrook time. She'd apparently already forgotten about Timothy, Will and Guy. But d**n, that kid must be rich. Italian and French restaurants?
I was surprised they didn't go to Disneyland, but I guess they just spent 3 days at Disney World like a month before. Dawn got on Jessi's case for wanting to go to the San Diego Zoo. Dude, it's only about 90 minutes; it's not like she wanted to go to San Francisco. They had to drive an hour to most of the places they went to anyway. Then again, a zoo? And they sure spent a lot of time watching movies.
About the We <3 Kids Club, it's not even just that parents don't know when to call. They wouldn't know where to call either since they hold their "meetings" wherever they feel like it. I have to agree with Kristy, that's just pointless.

Yeah they went a bit too far in trying to show how different the BSC and We <3 Kids Club were. I don't see how the We <3 Kids Club was even a club... it was like, luck of the draw as to whether parents got a hold of a sitter and I'd think it'd be super easy to hog all the jobs with their little arrangement. Then again, it's not like they really seemed to be clammoring for jobs, anyway, I wonder why they even had that club. Did they seem like they even LIKED kids, much less <3 them??

The point of the club was to show how amazing the bsc is. It's more a business than a club really, while the We Heart Kids Club is just a club.

I agree, though, I think the point of the We <3 Kids Club was to make the BSC look good. And, seriously, calling your club the We <3 Kids Club is even worse than calling it the Baby-Sitters Club.

i remember in the chain letter book, Dawn bragging about how she "practically grew up in Disneyland" and how it was a hassle going there cos Mary Anne wanted to and she thought it was so passe. Gosh Dawn.
Maybe thats why they never went there.

The stupid thing is, in another book (maybe Dawn on the Coast? can't remember) Dawn says something about how they don't live far from Disneyland etc, "but believe me, it's always a treat".

I think that in most of the other tranlations, like the French ones, they kept the original locations for everything. In the first French translation, which was published in Canada, they lived in the (fictional) town of Nouville, Québec. Stacey (Sophie) was from Toronto. I think Dawn (Diane) was originally supposed to be from Hull, but when the translators realized that moving from Hull, Québec to Nouville, Québec wouldn't provide the appropriate amount of culture shock, it was said that she'd grown up in California, then moved to Hull, then to Nouville. I'm not sure about that, though -- other people who have read more books in this translation might know better.

Jeez, it seems like it would've been easier for all these translated bsc books just to keep place names/locations and character names rather than change them all around. I know that it pisses me off whenever I read an older translation of a russian novel and they Anglicize everything for English readers. I don't want Prince Andrew, I want Andrey, just like I want Kristy Thomas and not some other name. I guess it makes it easier for kids, but I never had a problem as a child when I read books translated from a different language that had non-English character names.

They didn't translate the books in Australia, but sometimes they edited them to Australian spelling - the girls said "mum" for example. Also, they changed the temperature references from farenheit to celcius. The changes were really obvious and annoying, for some reason.

^ I have a British BSC book, and whenever a girl is referring to a group of friends, she would use the word "lot." In the U.S. versions, I have yet to come across the word "lot" to be used that way by any of them.
