Was reading a blog about books in the 80s/90s and came across this tidbit about ghostwriter Peter Lerangis. Did you know that he was a ghostwriter for Sweet Valley Twins? This used to be second favourite series growing up

I think Peter was most effective at writing Abby, Kristy and Claudia books. The idea of having a narrator designated to a specific character might have been a good idea too!

^ What ghostwriters do you think fit other characters?

For me I liked Suzanne Weyn for Stacey and Nola Thacker for Kristy.

I barely remember the ghosties, but I know Peter can write a deluded thirteen year old well.

Yeah. Remember Stacey's Crush? That was a cute one! Stacey was usually funny with her crushes. Mallory's crush on Ben Hobart was similar...Stacey and Mallory are actually more alike than many people realize. I think that's part of why they sort of have a close bond.

Peter is probably one of my favorite ghostwriters. It totally blew my mind that so many BSC books were written by a boy, though!

^ Yeah. Remember Stacey's Crush? That book still makes me think Stacey is so much more boy crazy then she usually is ๐

I don't think they did a good job of differentiating between boy crazy meaning lots of boys, crazy about a boy, or doing crazy things for a boy. Early in the series she had lots of different guys as dates to dances, but she wasn't breaking anybody's heart. She was mostly normal around boys and had a couple crazy incidents on the way.

So true!!! Thank you, Oldhickory!! Which is why it irks me when people villianize Stacey as this supposedly fickle, shallow person who would spend her life ditching one guy after another. Never did she disregard anyone's feelings, even in her so-called "boy-crazy" phase, which was when she was only thirteen, not sixteen or eighteen.

I think Lerangis wrote Kristy, Mary Anne and Logan best (pretty similarly to how Ann wrote them, got their personalities and relationships pretty well), also Stacey usually well, while Ellen Miles wrote Claudia best.

I think the writers often didn't use their real names, so we actually can't be sure that "Peter Lerangis" was truly a guy.
