Good point. I remember our school trip to Greece. We were there for a week and with the exception of one afternoon and part of the first morning we were busy being sheparded from site to site or transfering between hotels. We did have some free time but we were certainly not allowed to wander off. Oh and we were 16 and 17.

I liked that a lot. It seemed they devoted more attention to writing Stacey in this book than the others...first her mom's involved, then the uncomfortable-ness with Robert, her horror about the clothes, and her feelings about Mr. Anderson and his experiences. I liked reading about it all.
Ah, good point. That does seem to come up an awful lot. And then they get into all kinds of crazy hijinks because of it. In Fright Night, Kristy gets locked in a museum after going off by herself. When Claud's class goes to Philly she wanders the mall with Stacey and then later gets lost with Melissa while running the streets trying to get from museums to wherever else. There was always a bunch of chaperones, but boy could the girls find ways to get around them.

I thought it was pretty bizarre how they seemed to make up most of their itinerary while they were in London and Paris instead of before their trip started.
Also, why were they not assigned particular seats on the plane until they got to the airport? Does that happen? I thought that when you bought your ticket, it had your seat number on it. Every plane ticket I've bought has.

^IME, the seats on the plane aren't assigned until you check in and get a boarding pass.

I was going to say maybe I'm just crazy and they're always only assigned on the boarding pass, but then I did some checking around. It seems that sometimes you are assigned or can specifically request a particular seat when you book your ticket, and sometimes the seats aren't assigned until you check in and get a boarding pass.

Well it really really depends, on the airline and on your destination. I have flown more than most people, especially internationally. But this probably would have been before all the fancy online stuff that you can do these days.

I have never flown once in my life, so I wouldn't know.
My thoughts on this book... Stacey and Kristy chapters were funny. Probably the most entertaining, no the most entertaining in the whole book. I like the Kristy chapters the best though, it was nice to see her soften up a bit and sort of let her vulnerable side come out for a change.
The old man spreading the ashes of his WWII buddy, touched me. I admit it brought a little tear to my eye. I found it really touching.
Overall This wasn't my favorite super special, but it did have its moments.

The playground plot seemed not all that interesting to me--and seriously, why would Jerry and (especially) Janine be interested in these jobs at all (when for Janine it means giving up another job--which I'm not sure I understand why she took either, since she's never seen interested in any kind of childcare before)? I can sort of understand why there might be so much competition for the middle-school slots, because there's really not much you can do at that age besides baby-sit (and we know who holds that monopoly) and mow lawns and stuff, but I guess I would think Janine could get a much more interesting job at Stoneybrook University or something that didn't involve being passive-aggressively sniped at by her ex-boyfriend. One phrase sums this up nicely: "working at this summer camp will look good on my college application" I thought the Dawn and Susan chapter was a bit of a distraction. It reminded me of an episode of, say, LOST where we spend an entire hour with someone that we've never met before... just to eat up space. I've always wondered what AMM's deal with autism was, since she wrote a couple of books on it. This was the 1st super special I've read in about 15 years... I wasn't too impressed

I've always wondered what AMM's deal with autism was, since she wrote a couple of books on it. Ann worked at the Eden Institute teaching kids with autism during the summers when she was in high school and for part of her freshman year at college.

Just reread and still like it pretty well but always remember liking it more than I actually do. For some reason, Abby really bugs me. She does in most super specials. I just can't get into most of the chapters but do like the stuff about Kristy and Michel and Janine telling Jerry off on the playground. I love Janine in this book. I think Claudia is a real jerk to her - like usual - when Janine is the one who is being responsible and Claudia does seem to be goofing off a lot (not much new there My favorite thing about this book is the location. I've always wanted to visit Europe but probably never will be able to so will settle for reading this book and imagining traveling there with the BSC.

I want to travel to Europe as well, especially when I read this book. Whenever I read a vacation super special I get a huge urge to go on vacation even more. Agreed, Claudia was a real jerk to Janine, but what else is new?

I found this book a couple of weeks ago and read it for the first time. I was surprised at how much I liked it, considering it came late in the series. I was happy to see some Canadian characters, but was majorly annoyed at some of the incredibly wrong facts about Canada. I don't have the book with me right now, so I can't look it up, but I'm pretty sure someone says that Toronto is the capital of Canada. It's not. And I think someone refers to Quebec as a city, which is also inaccurate. Come on, do a little research before writing.

Isn't Quebec City sometimes called Quebec?

I'm probably in the minority here, but I liked the whole dancing thing, even if it was really unrealistic. I like when Jessi does hte ballets and stuff...then again i'm a theatre person, but i can't dance to save my life, but I always appreciated the dancing.
