i can't help being a bit angry when i see people come from the uk and europe in nyc and they are just shopping shopping shopping cause the exchange rate is so favorable for them. (apologies to the brits and europeans on here!)

^ I don't blame them! People in my area went to Canada to shop all the time a few years back when their dollar was really weak compared to ours, and they still go to Oregon (no sales tax). I'm just playing the devil's advocate, though. I'm actually more into travel experiences rather than travel shopping!

Eh, I can say it annoys me, but if the exchange rate was in the favor of the American dollar, I'd be over in England in a snap. $100 a night hotel for $50? I'll take it!

I thought it was neat when Mallory found out that her family is related to William Shakespeare.

^ So did I. I would love to find out that I was related to William Shakespeare. He is one my favorites.
As far as the exchange rate goes, I understand why people do it sometimes as well, but once in awhile it annoys me.

Does anyone remember if Mal's family in England was from her mom's side or her dad's side?

I think it was her mom's side. I haven't read this in a long time so I'm not positive.

^Thanks. I haven't read this book in a long time either. Plus, it's not really one of my favorites.

Yeah it was her mom's side because the narrative says her mother's maiden name is Bennett, but then on the family tree they show, it's appears to be something completely different. I can only remember that off the top of my head because of my love for a British singer whose last name is Bennett, and it gave me a squee. He might be related Mallory Pike.

I might be doing my 3 year degree in London next year, but I definitely won't spend all my time indoors writing in a journal like Mallory!

I just finished reading this again, and I enjoyed it more than I have in the past. It's not my faovirte Super Special, by any means, but it does contain my favorite single storyline in any Super Special (Stacey). Stacey and Mr. Anderson at Normandy always get to me, and that particular chapter is just so well-written and so different from Peter Lerangis's usual style that I almost wonder if he had his own ghostwriter for that part. I did did think it was funny that Stacey was so convinced at first that the urn contained the remains of a murder victim. Seriously...how many killers would cremate their victims, then put them in a decorative urn LABELED WITH THE VICTIM'S NAME, and then travel to Europe with the remains in a checked suitcase? Speaking of Peter L., he really seems to turn up the Perv-O-Meter in this one. First, we get to hear about Jaqui Grant leaning over in a low-cut shirt and showing herself to Robert on the plane. Then, we get the joke about Stacey not having any clothes to wear. Finally, there's the infamous wet t-shirt contest/stuffing it conversation. Here's a picture of him: www.threeinvestigatorsbooks.com/LerangisInterview.htmlIt looks like it's probably seven years old...and apparently he was selected by the former First Lady to travel to Moscow for some book thing. Who knew he was such a prolific author!

I think it's pretty interesting that Lerangis got most of the later "juicy" plots involving boys, and several of the CA Diaries. I like it when he writes Claudia and Kristy though, because I think of them having stronger senses of humor than the others.
I've always liked this Super Special, especially the Michel/Kristy romance.

^ I always thought the whole "I'm insulting you but I really like you" thing they had going on was pretty realistic for kids that age. I was pretty indifferent to that storyline overall, though.
