I'm currently rereading the regular series, after ten years, and I've noticed that the girls often shorten Claudia's name to Claud. Since it sounds very similar to 'clod' (i.e. a stupid person), I wonder if it was intentional on the authors' part? You know, how Claudia is made out to be dumb? So, I wonder if there's a hidden meaning behind naming her Claudia and then calling her Claud/clod? Authors often give their characters meaningful names that correspond to their character, personality, profession, etc. For example, the character Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games series. Katniss is a plant in the genus Sagittaria, roughly translated from Latin as the 'archer.'

Ann took the name from one of her best friends, Dr. Claudia Werner. I don't know if she thought about the "clod" thing afterwards.

You know, that's interesting and something to think about! It'd be funny if it was intended to be like 'clod'
