I made this thread because I thought that Mary Anne and Dawn made better friends than stepsisters. Their friendship was a lot healthier before their parents remarried. They fought, but not as badly as they did when they became sisters.

Well, I have always fought much more intensely with my siblings than any friends. Maybe it had to do with Mary Anne being an only child. She seemed to put a lot of pressure into being sisters because it's not like she had anything to compare it to. Dawn had a pretty normal sibling relationship with Jeff.

^ That's a really good insight actually. MA had a lot of hopes and dreams for it, but was probably unprepared for all the drama, fights and issues that come along with siblings!

True. She had been sibling less for 13 years!

Good point about MA. If she had had siblings before Richard and Sharon got married, maybe MA and Dawn would've had a better sisterly relationship.

I'm wondering if Mary Anne secretly hates Dawn given all the mean things she said to her? I notice all of Mary Anne's verbal abuse happened after they became stepsisters.

I don't think she hates her, I think she just has a thin skin and expected a lot more of Dawn after they became sisters.

Mary Anne romanticized the idea of having a sister for so long that she set herself for a major disappointment when the fantasy became reality. They're just not meant to be sisters. They are just far too different.

They are just far too different. I agree that she romanticized the idea, but being similar has nothing to do with being sisters! My siblings and I are worlds different.

Agree, but I do also agree she romanticised having a sibling! Not that that's her fault!

I know it's not about MA and Dawn but it's about siblings... I always thought Kristy's sibling relationship with David Michael and Karen and Andrew were unrealistic, especially Karen and Andrew. She's just all "Aww they're just the cutest, awesomest kids ever!". She gets along with David Michael really well except for a few situations like in Kristy + Bart = ? which is unrealistic because little brothers and big sisters usually don't get along. I guess the large age gap between them might be why they get along, though...

^ Yeah I have to disagree with you, I'm a big sister to a younger brother (almost said little - but he's 22, tall and expecting a baby!). Anyway, I'm 8 years older and he was always my baby, we never fought (still don't) not like my (2 year younger) sister and I do!
