I know that I should be very careful of calling a female character I don't like a a Mary Sue, but Jessi counts as one.
I'm not that great with descriptions, but here goes, Jessi is already getting starring ballet roles at eleven. It would take other girls years to get those roles. She is never awkward like poor Mallory. It's like Jessi is an eleven year old supermodel who's got Midas touch.
Mostly I hate Jessi because she never had the same struggles and bad luck as Mallory, even though they are the same age.

Yeah, I always thought Jessi was a total Mary Sue. She's just so perfect, and the only flaw she has is that she's too perfect!

I think she has struggles, the race thing, but apart from what we were told happened when she first moved to Stoneybrook, and book 56, not much happens?

I wonder has Jessi been through the Mary Sue Litmus test yet?

I took a Mary Sue test and according to the results, Jessi is in fact a Mary Sue

I bet Jessi will pitch a hissy fit when she finds out. But, who cares right?

She will probably assume it's only because she's black and the person who made the test is racist

Some Mary-Sues do work, like Matilda from Roald Dahl's book of the same name, and Sara Crewe from Frances Hodgson Burnett's book "A Little Princess". But they are intentional Mary-Sues. Jessi most likely isn't.
I checked out the Mary-Sue Litmus Test, and I came up with 21, which says that there is actually only a moderate chance that Jessi is a Mary-Sue, so if she is, it's not too bad of a one.
...but is it OK to say that I actually like Jessi? Her impossible ballet skills aside, she has some likable traits. The BSC was generally pretty snotty about a lot of things. Claudia hanging out with Ashley, Mary Anne changing her look, stuff like that. Jessi (and Mallory)? They usually kept to themselves at that time. They didn't argue. And they were the only ones who took Claudia seriously when she was in seventh grade. Like Claudia said, if seventh-graders were such babies, why did they let sixth-graders into the club?
I think Jessi may be created to be especially likable because she's the token. Ann and the ghostwriters are overcompensating to make sure no African-Americans accuse them of ignoring their representation. In other words, Jessi is almost perfect because she's the only black member of the club and they want to make sure she's not offensive or ineffectual, so that they don't alienate the African-American girls who might be reading.

I think Jessi had some struggles and flaws, enough not to be a Mary Sue, mostly that she initially strongly clashed with Aunt Cecelia and that at times she was hesitant about continuing dancing and became more interested in other possibilities like acting.

The idea of Jessi wanting to act or model came up several times, actually. She wasn't actually supposed to be good at acting or singing, but I wonder, if Jessi had tried modeling, would it have worked out for her? Probably not is actually the answer. Jessi succeeds in mostly active areas, or choreography (remember, she choreographed all of Stacey's cheerleading routine in book #70), but she tends to fail in most other areas. Don't forget, Mallory usually passes everything to do with creative writing.
