Here are some of my thoughts:
Claud got offended when Stacey implied that Claud job hogged - when she does take jobs in the first book! The four girls are so bored hanging out together - never later because of all the stuff they create to do The people robbed in Mercer were at a school board meeting until 1015PM! No thanks! Kristy had to declare an emergency meeting when they were hanging out anyway, they couldn’t just keep talking! Reading over the code once a day seems very Kristy like – unnecessary!
Here are some questions: MA asking who Trevor is struck me as odd – didn’t they grow up in school together? The media have nick names for thieves not just serial killers? How would the premise of the book change if it was set today with todays technology? I thought Kristy freaking out about a scary movie seems quite unlike her? Not normal chapter 2, I wonder which book they start? Was it unfair that Claud immediately thought Kristy was the one who let it slip about her crush when Alan was singing about Claudia and Trevor? Did anyone else ever day dream about their crushes the way Claudia does, creating situations for them to be alone? I did! Haha. Has anyone read ‘The Pond’, Clauds English class book?
Memorable things to note: Claudia’s scottie dog bow tie Alexander Kurtman with his briefcase, jacket and tie, and line cutting rules (how much do you want to bet he had a hard time at HS!) Peppermint stick ice cream (sounds yum!)

I appreciate the small town crime aspect of it. People really are all nosy and gossipy and follow every detail when something major (or minor) happens in the area.
(If we aren't going to post discussion questions in these threads then doesn't it make more sense to just use the already existing threads? We've just tried a book club idea before with the exact same results.)

Should I rephrase me thoughts as questions?

I think, I'm going reread this book again, soon.

I believe it about school board meetings running that late. When I worked as a news reporter, I once had to stay and cover a meeting that ran that long. And it was my on my birthday. Ugh!

Updated with new questions, and here are some of my thoughts:
Claudia’s excitement over Trevor sightings was cute, I remember being like that in school! Claudia misspelling October ‘ocorer’ is so bad it’s clear she wasn’t even paying attention, not that she’s stupid! Interesting that Dorianne Wallingfor, Emily Bernstein, Howie Johnson, Pete Black and Rick Chow are supposed to be cool as opposed to Lauren Hoffman and the Shillaber twins, when I’ve always thought the first group were dorky. Maybe they were cool before Sheila and Robert were invented! Mrs Newton mentions Claud’s art classes, and I know she still takes them in #12, but she doesn’t really do them much later on! I feel bad for Janine when Claud tells her to shut up for relating a thunderstorm memory to the fear process, because even though Claudia didn’t understand what Janine was going on about, I bet Janine didn’t understand why (plus she’d just helped Claud with her homework!) Ugh why would Mordidda Destiny give Kristy the mouse remains instead of just throwing them out?!

Ugh why would Mordidda Destiny give Kristy the mouse remains instead of just throwing them out?! That IS weird! Why shame her for normal cat behavior when she has a cat of her own?

"Angry Pig Goes Hog Wild" "Depressed Trucker Drives Self Crazy" Hahahaha loving these pun headlines.
LOVE this interaction between Kristy and Karen: "What's this?" exclaimed Kristy. "The Witch Next Door? Where did this come from?" "It just appeared," said Karen mysteriously. Kristy looked at her suspiciously. "Are you sure?" "Well... it appeared from inside Daddy's briefcase. He bought it for me." LMAO Karen!!!
And also when Alan is hauled in to be questioned by the cops and Kristy, after the kids were banished to the kitchen to eat dinner: "Son," said Officer Stanton in a more kindly voice, "what did you want to ask her?" Alan mumbled something that nobody could understand. "Louder!" shouted Rob from the kitchen. AHAHAHA eight year olds.
Good question about how this book would change with today's technology - first of all, most families wouldn't have landlines, so that rules that out. The girls might have cellphones (though I can't see Mary Anne having one... maybe she'd bring her dad's since he'd want to be in touch with her.) Also, call display on the cellphones would show the number calling, so that would be completely moot. Hahaha, I don't know how it would work! I don't know how the Phantom Phone Caller would be a real threat.

I agree, kind of odd. I assumed Trevor had gone to school with them all those years. Also, as someone who was quiet and shy like MA in school, I knew who everyone in my class was. I was always observing the goings-on even if I wasn't always participating

This would be the hardest book to have updated with the technology aspect. Cell phones and land lines.

I just realized I never posted in this thread! This is one of my favorite early BSC books! The BSC girls acted so young! Kristy calling parents "worrywarts", Claudia laughing at boys making food sculptures at lunch, etc. It was weird reading about Kristy wearing dresses and loafers, though...when did she start wearing turtlenecks and jeans? I agree about this book being the hardest to update with caller ID and all. Was this book ever updated? I've never read the graphic novels...
