I've always liked this book. It's so much more action packed than most BSC books: Stacey's issue with her parents about her illness, the competition between the BSC and BSA, Lucy Newton being born, AND Charlotte not having any friends.

I really enjoy this book in particular. Compared to the lightheartedness of Kristy's Great Idea, and Phantom Phone Calls where they all panic and overreact like real preteens, this book had a sense of gravitas and genuine hardship. It touched on a lot of mature topics like chronic illness, smoking, child endangerment, infertility (I think this is the book where Stacey talks about her parents' inability to have more children, but correct me if I'm wrong), losing friends, changing family dynamics, etc, that felt so different from the original two books. I could actually feel the weight on the world on Stacey's shoulders.

Yeah, Stacey's parents were unable to have children. I agree with you on all those points. Even though this book was a serious one, there were some funny moments in this one particularly the one where the BSC wore those sandwich boards to school
