I really have to reread that one sometime soon. My copy of it went mysteriously missing, but I got a copy from Ashley recently.

I loved Karen's reaction to Charlie's present in that one. Something like "Five dollars doesn't seem like much for a bracelet, but what do I know?" Ha!

That's funny you should mention Karen's Newspaper! It is one of my favorites and I just read it to my parents while we were on vacation (I read to them to pass time/keep them awake). They loved it too and couldn't stop laughing. After hearing that one, they want to read more LS books. I guess the addiction to the BSC is contagious.

I just read Tea Party and found parts of it funny but I think it is actually one of my least favorites. I do like Nannie in it, though. I actually like her in a lot of the LS books but not in the main series. I also read Karen's School Trip, though, and love that one. I like how Watson goes to the zoo with them and helps them find the answers for the questions. I also feel better when I read the part where Karen feels like a "lazybones" while she is sick and her mom tells her that she needs her rest. I always feel really guilty for resting, even when I am sick, and this book makes me feel better about it. Maybe I would like Tea Party better if I was in a different mood. I will definitely reread as it is one of the ones I own. Next on my list might be Karen's New Teacher as I don't remember that one.

Is Tea Party the one where Karen makes rice messes and pudding messes and has to go to charm school (which now, disturbingly, makes me think of Karen on that VH1 Celebreality show)? I remember feeling schadenfreude at Karen not being able to make rice or pudding and being quite disappointed when she eventually got it right with the...brownies? Or something? I loved when people in the BSC-universe messed up I was similarly annoyed when Mallory turned out to be an archery superstar in Mallory Hates Boys (and Gym).

I just reread Karen's Pony and I think that is one of my favorites. I love reading about little ponies, anyway. My favorite part was when Watson groomed the pony with her - love seeing parents interact with their kids and the BSC books don't contain enough of this for me. Also really liked Karen's New Teacher - the "Hatey Hoffman" song is so funny and really something I can see myself doing. In fact, I was making up a song about my "Hatey Grandma" today ;D (I wish Nannie was MY grandma - well, in the LS books at least. I don't like her in the regular series.)

Ew, Karen's New Teacher is among my least favorites. If I was shelling out the dough to send my kid to a private school and then she had a substitute who said girls couldn't wear pants in her classroom I would be up at that school making a giant stink. She's a sub. She doesn't get to make up new rules when the kids aren't doing anything in violation of school policy. Mrs. Hoffman was just so weird in the beginning of that book and it rubbed me completely the wrong way. I was an adult when I read it the first time, though, so if I'd been young I might have hated it less. I also didn't care for Karen's Pony which I lump in along with several other titles that seem to give the idea that animals/pets are disposable.
My favorites are Karen's Little Sister, Karen's Big Joke, and Karen's Sleepover.

I remember parts of Karen's Doll being unintentionally funny. It was cute that she named the doll Hyacynthia (as in "How ya doin', Cynthia?") because Cynthia was too boring on its own.
Karen's New Holiday was one that I thought would annoy me before I read it, but really didn't. I was just like Karen and the other kids at that age. I hated that there were a lot of holidays bunched together and then you'd have to wait a long stretch before another one would come a long. Plus I always tend to like the summer books.

Karen's Newspaper, #40. It's just so funny. The articles the girls write about Hannie's dad's "spare tire" and Charlie's cheap present for his girlfriend, and then the tabloid-type ones about women giving birth to aliens and such seriously crack my nuts up. ROFL! That has to be my favorite one too! Haven't read it in years....I'll have to order it from Amazon or something. Unfortunately, the bookstores around here don't seem to carry the BSC series or the Little Sister series anymore.

Man, I forgot pretty much everything about Karen's New Teacher (except that Karen has a substitute teacher and doesn't like her). Mrs. Hoffman said girls couldn't wear pants in the classroom? What a total freakazoid.

Just read Karen's Fishing Trip for Father's Day and really liked it, as always. Love how she arranges for Hannie and Nancy's families to come and makes sure Keegan doesn't get left out. The monster watching is slightly annoying but the rest of the book makes up for it. My favorite part is how she gets the can of worms for Watson and they get loose so she runs through the cabin beating on a pan and yelling "worm alert" It had me laughing right out loud when I read that this morning ;D

Now I have to add Karen's Black Cat and Karen's Movie Star to the list of my favorites. I really enjoyed reading about Boo Boo's last days (sounds morbid but you know what I mean ;D) I also liked reading about Pumpkin, who sounds cute, and always enjoy holiday books ;D I think all the LS Halloween books are my favorites. Also love Karen's Pilgrim as it reminds me of visiting Plimoth Plantation. That just made me remember I need to order that one so I have it in time for Thanksgiving....

Reading this thread is just reminding me of how many LS books I really love. I really am trying to build my collection. I also love all the holiday books especially the Halloween and Christmas ones.

^ I think the one in Chicago is Karen's Big City Mystery. I also live not far from Chicago and enjoyed reading about it. I just ordered more LS books last night and only have about 7 more to go to complete my collection ;D I can't really chose between them for my favorites because I like almost all of them so well. My "favorite", though, is probably Worst Day because I always read it after having a really bad day and then everything tends to get better ;D
