^Nope. They all speak the way she does in the LS books.

How many contractions does the BSC use and the ghost written ones as compared to the ones AMM wrote? Also, are there more or less contractions in early vs. late LS books? Just curious as I naturally write without them, even though I don't speak like that. This is probably why I'm the only one not bothered by this (actually don't even notice) in the LS books.

Kind of off topic, but it always bugged me a little bit that she insisted her Krushers t-shirt be spelled with a "C" instead of a "K". That didn't bug me at all actually. In fact, it used to drive me crazy that they spelled Crushers with a K and not a C (I knew it was because the team was called Kristy's Krushers and it made more sense that way but it still bugged me). Oh and don't get me started on the no contractions thing. That annoyed the p*** out of me. And it wasn't just Karen who talked that way; it seemed that everyone else did too, except for the grown-ups, which led me to form the theory that maybe Karen and her classmates didn't learn about contractions yet so they were using the long forms of the words in their speech. But then again, they were second-graders in a somewhat prestigious private school so they had to have learned contractions at some point, therefore making that theory bogus. For whatever the reason it still annoys me to this day and I really don't know how an author could go out of her way to not write contractions in a story. The no contractions thing was especially funny when Karen and her friends would have fights because it would always sound so proper and yet so funny at the same time, like "I can't believe you did such a thing, you gigundo meanie-mo!" (being random here) suddenly became, "I cannot believe you did such a thing, you gigundo meanie-mo!" lol. I would be in complete hysterics every time there was a fight lol.

plus contractions are something that happens naturally. it's not like kids learn them in school and then suddenly start using contractions.

They don't use contractions in the Kids in Ms Colman's Class books either. Every kid in those books is like "I do not think that is a good idea. We should not do that." Like, come on! sweeetvalleygirl, love your description of the fights! haha!

Exactly, greer. You "learn" contractions just by being around people. It's how people talk. You grow up using them.

I'm reminded of Karen scolding Ricky in Karen's Tea Party after he gets in trouble for hiding in the coat closet during charm school: "I am sorry you got your allowance taken away, Ricky Torres. But I do not know why you cannot behave properly" or something like that. Cracked me up.

I'm pretty sure Ann only answers questions like "Which babysitter can you relate to the most?!"

Lack of contractions kind of made this series unenjoyable to read. The words just didn't flow. It was so unrealistic. Could it be Ann was trying to play teacher? You know, teach children the "correct way to speak?" If so, I would take Junie B. Jones any day. I can see Karen pushing grammer to others, but I doubt she thought in perfect grammer, because she always struck me as the type who didn't practice what she preached.

Karen actually spoke in contractions in her first few books I believe...so I don't know why they made the change.

Really, the only time people leave out contractions or spell them out is for emphasis.

I think most people say contraction without realizing it. And they wonder why it sounds weird when they use proper grammer.
