The picture on the last page is really weird. Bart looks younger than 13, Karen looks like usual, and Kristy doesn't look anything like she usually does! She looks like she has braces, too!

I really liked this book! I figured it was written by a ghostwriter but it was actually written by Ann herself (which may explain why I liked it better?)
wenonah4th, I can see what you mean but I think that Kristy actually looks pretty in that picture. Bart and Kristy do look high-school age, I can see that.
Anyway, Karen was a b*tch in this book. I liked how Bart was described as "gangly" and kept knocking Miss Fern over. I can see how a straight boy babysitter might be a bit messy and forget to clean up, especially if he doesn't do that at home.

I don't see how Bart's sexuality has anything to do with his messiness.

Man, I loved this book. The palm tree man has to be one of the best things that ever happened in LS. I loved Karen saying "It's only a man dressed as a tree...isn't it?" Bart makes "cracker pizzas" when he sits for them, melted cheese and tomato on crackers. Kind of creative I guess. I loved how Kristy and Bart took Karen to see Homeward Bound at the movies. Cute! This book made me want to try out tomato and cheese (nuked) on crackers. Did anyone else think the contest part was irrelevant to this book and could have been left out entirely? How many contests can one 7-year-old girl win!? I don't see why Ann put that in, maybe only to tell kids not to enter contests where it says "must be at least 18 years to enter". I love the cover. I love the hazy energy to the sky.

I don't see how Bart's sexuality has anything to do with his messiness. It really doesn't. I guess I didn't need to include that, my bad. I've just had many, many roommates in my day. The messiest ones, hands down, were the straight guys. I lived with 4 during my first year of university and 2 during my third year. Although I know of many not-straight slobs

I liked reading about Bart being Karen and Andrew's baby-sitter since it was different. Karen was a brat, to say the least and she should have been punished for more than two days. I got a laugh of the man dressed as a palm tree man.

I wonder why Bart wasn't considered as an associate member. If he's good enough to sit for Karen and Andrew, wouldn't he be good enough to sit for other clients -- at least in Kristy's area? That could have solved some major issues when Dawn left. I think the BSC should have loaded up on a few more associate members. With Shannon and Logan -- and let's say Bart, Emily or Erica (for example), they could have been set!

^ Sorry, how would it be redundant? I don't see how that would matter

another bsc member with an associate member boyfriend, and she would happen to be mary anne's best friend....that's like giving another BSC diabetes for the sake of it, though I used to think a good plot would have been a book with a title about Claudia and her candy, and how she gets diabetes from eating too much junk food, and Stacey is trying to help her adjust but it's not working

This is one of the few LS books I've read which is why I am checking out this thread. Hey Vanessa would be proud, that rhymes. I can see how having Bart as an Associate Member might turn into yet another chapter 2 mention. Still, I think Bart easily could have helped out with clients in his and Kristy's neighborhood. A much more helpful idea would probably have been if Logan had made good on his promise in #10 to talk with those guys he knew who might be interested in being Associates. Either that, or we know Gordon Brown was a sitter. Certainly Mariah or Miranda Shillaber could have lent a hand as needed. Some of the books say that Seven main members is plenty. I totally agree with that because otherwise keeping track of and really getting to know each person could be challenging. However, I don't see what would have been so hard for either the clients or ghostwriters if they had added a couple more Associates. Just my Saturday afternoon three cents.

I don't think it's the same thing, but okay. I just meant that Bart as an associate member would have solved a lot of the BSC's issues (especially at the time this book was published). If he can sit for Karen and Andrew, he should be good enough for the rest of the clients
