Yeah, Karen's New Year does have that Harriet the Spy feel to it. I just got finished reading this! I'm glad Lisa and Watson decided to give Karen a taste of her own medicine!

It's nice that this one feeds right into #15.

Yeah, I like when previous stories are mentioned in future books.

I think the first 15-20 Karen books flowed pretty well from one to the next, with the exception of Karen's bad haircut growing back immediately.

Yes, she doesn't mention the hair in #9.

Yeah maybe the ghost writer forgot Karen's hair was cut.

There was no ghostwriter (especially not that early in the series.)
I actually was not that bothered by the fact that Karen's hair grew back by the next book. Maybe I just wanted Karen to go back to her "normal" hair and not have to deal with mullet angst in another book.

this one also feeds right from Karen's Wish. Yeah it does go straight to Karen's Wish. I love the continuity of the ls books. Makes it seem more realistic.

I kind of like how Karen's family taught her a lesson by spying on her. At least she will remember it more than a "Talking to"...

I really love the continuity from Karen's Wish to Karen's New Year. It was especially nice reading about what the rest of the presents were in the first chapter.

To add onto my original comment, I think it's a good way to teach someone as creative as Karen. However, it may not be a good punishment for a kid -- let's say -- like Andrew.

It's also good to see that Watson & Lisa could agree and cooperate on that punishment.

I don't know, the punishment was to basically gang up on and embarrass Karen. I thought it would have been more effective to point it out immediately each time someone saw her break her resolutions. Like if your puppy pees on your carpet, it doesn't do any good to yell at it an hour later.
