Well, in michigan, the cold weather does so much damage to the roads that it's said we have two seasons - winter and construction. But it's more of an annoyance then anything REALLY damaging. Of course, it does cost the state a fortune in road costs, plus the damage to cars as they fall into pothole after pothole. And I do love the Northern part of Lake Michigan in the summer. To get back on to the book - is this the one where Karen has to help her brothers shovel snow? Why don't her Big House (hah! That makes me think of U of M football) neighbors have snow removal service? It would have made more sense to me if they had shoveled for people in their old neighborhood -- it's like 5 minutes away, right? Charlie could have driven Sam over there because they did it in past years,e tc. Here I go, rewritting the books again

^ This is the one with the shoveling. I think Charlie and Sam were the neighborhood snow removal services. ;D ;D Agree, cpenny, that your idea would have made more sense but I guess they just started their service in this book. Greer, I also hate group projects and am always like "just get out of my way and let me do it right!" (kind of like Kristy, once again ;D) Cpenny, just noticed you hit 500 and are at Charlotte's now. Congrats!

^ I'm so sorry. :-[I guess I assumed you'd been there for a while now. ; D I really can't believe I didn't notice, though, but I guess 500 is an easier number to spot than 1700 or whatever it is. Hey, I didn't even realize when I had made the Newtons, if that's consolation. ;D

Today was a snow day, so I thought of this book. Snow days are no fun when you're an adult and have to go places, lol. I would hire Charlie and Sam to clear my driveway, but it's not a great idea to have a 17 year old boy driving around town on badly plowed roads. I'm sure the Big House neighborhood had lots of sidewalks and long, wide driveways for multi-car garages, so they definitely earned the pennies they were making. I forget what Karen's snow day plans were, but they were an active kid's plans. Mine were always: sleep late, eat junk food, watch All My Children, play Nintendo, do the homework that I skipped the night before when I was hoping for a snow day, go to bed.

There was one year we had a late snowstorm, in March, and some friends were making an in-town move. My mother and I were helping them with it, but it ended up being pretty funny because the building inspector couldn't get a proper look at the house, they didn't have any heating oil so that couldn't be inspected- you get the idea. These are people that things just happened to, and it always ended up being funny when the wife would repeat the story.

Same here, although I don't watch All My Children (or any soap opera) ;D. That would be replaced with Maury . Did anyone's school ever do a late start after a snowstorm (like the school delayed its opening for a couple of hours)? My high school did it whenever they could (except for the really bad ones; during my junior year in February, this blizzard hit and we were off for two days and one of them was Valentine's Day) and the only good thing that came out of it was that we got some extra sleep. I hated it otherwise because well, you still had to go to school! ;D Thankfully, when I hit senior year and we had late starts, my mom just let me take the whole day .

^Yeah. I live in Wisconsin and two hour school delays are extremely common. They usually need extra time to get the roads clear and make sure the buses are up and running and stuff. Early dismissals are also pretty common if the weather gets bad during the school day. The rule is that if lunch is served then it counts as a full day of school, so they don't have to make the shortened days up at the end of the year.

As someone who has never seen snow, I could not relate to this book at all, lol, but still thought it was funny (in an ironic way) how there snow day is spent helping out the boys, but then they get another one the next day, lol.

This is one of my favorite winter books and since it is snowing nonstop now, I might as well read it again.

So the first ever 2 Little Sister books I picked up recently was this one and Karen's Pumpkin Patch (and for some reason I only picked out these two even though there were many more LS book options at the store I was at. I guess I just wanted to test out the series).
Anyway, I wanted to mention that I live in Canada and we have even gotten FOG DAYS (in addition to snow days. Hello. Obvious. Canada). This happened in high-school because my school was located right beside the main city in the country. We had kids from the city as well as from out in the country go to our school, so during times of the season -- especially September when the weather was changing from hot to cooler -- we would get a lot of fog in the morning. Busses wouldn't run in the country so school was closed! I remember this happened for a few days one particular year. The fog could clear up during the day, it would be nice out, and you would have no school. Horray!

I liked reading about Karen's excitement about snow and about Karen helping Charlie and Sam get customers.
