Today is my half birthday but I forgot to read this book. Boo and Bullfrogs! I did celebrate, though, because lately I’ve been adopting a lot of traditions from the BSC and LS books. Anything to break up this winter. ;D Anyone else get stuff from the books? I really liked this one, even though Karen did kind of go overboard. I still really liked the way she handled the things with the note on the board and found the whole birthday party hilarious. It would have been annoying but it was still fun to see so much enthusiasm. I can use some of that. ;D Anyway, I like this one much better than Karen’s Birthday, which makes me feel bad….

I've never celebrated my half birthday (which is April 3) but I've always remembered it. I thought Karen had neat ideas, but I agree that some of them were unfair, like only inviting half her class.

My half birthday is Christmas Eve, and sometimes I was like "hey, it's my half birthday". But no one cared, because.. well, half birthdays are kind of dumb. No offense. It just seems so ridiculous. Of course, I haven't really had that many actual birthday parties either -- either I was at camp, plus it was never THAT big of a deal.

^ I'm like Karen - I like to make a big deal out of little things. Adds some joy to life. ;D

I felt bad for Karen when everyone picked on her early on in the book, but I thought she handled it well with the note on the board (I never would've had the guts to do that) . I also thought it was cool that she wanted to celebrate her half birthday, even though inviting only half her class was unfair. However, I did lol when Jannie asked Karen at the party where her bathroom was and Karen said, "Down the hall, but remember you can only go-" and I think she was about to say "Halfway" when Jannie said, "Don't even think about saying that Karen Brewer!" lol ;D.

When I was little, people with summer birthdays (like me) always had our half birthdays as our "school birthdays," where our moms would bring treats and we would get some kind of in-class privilege, like being line leader or whatever. I think the teachers did that so that people with summer birthdays wouldn't automatically miss out.

My half birthday is on Feb 5 so I always got to celebrate it that day in school.

We didn't. Plus my half birthday is christmas eve, so I would be screwed either way. One year I brought treats towards the end of the year and everyone made me a card. I still have them, because that was the only time I ever had an actual "birthday party" once I was old enough to be shipped off to camp every summer.

This is one I haven't read yet but I think it's funny that after approximately 300 years Karen got 6 months older. I think the ghostwriters were running out of stories at the end. I think I would have liked celebrating my half birthday more than my actual birthday. My birthday is two weeks after Christmas so it's always -10 degrees out and my presents are usually after Christmas clearance buys. Like, Woo! Thanks for the Santa socks that I can wear a year from now!

^It just sucks a little to know they probably got them the day after Christmas for 75% off.

^But they were the same thing. It's not like they bought you 75% of a sock. That would be uncomfortable. I know what you are saying though. My grandmother's birthday is christmas day, so everything gets a little confusing with the gift-giving.

^ I would hate having a bday on Christmas. I like having a summer one to split things up with Christmas ;D but never had a half-birthday party at school. That must be why I want to make up for it now. ;D For some reason, the cake in this one sounded really good. ;D
